Hi there,

last month i went to Nigeria Africa and was wondering, that my Sony Xperia X didn't work there. I bought SIM-Cards from two different providers, but my phone always said 'network search'. Is this a known problem with Sailfish X? The phone supports the frequencies.

Airtel 900 (E-GSM) 1800 (DCS) B1 (2100)
Glo Mobile 900 (E-GSM) 1800 (DCS) B1 (2100)

Thanks, Michael

Were those Nigerian SIM cards, or are you using a foreign SIM card (roaming)? Some other people have already reported issues with roaming on Xperia X.

My German SIM card worked after several reboots for voice and SMS, but no data. The others were Nigerian SIMs

Wow now that is a scary post. Being a Nigerian and owner of a Jolla 1 for the past 3 years, I am in the process of changing my Jolla for a Sony Xperia X. Does that mean I should think long and hard about this or was there a technical glitch on the device? I have always had like a million questions about the functionality of the Sailfish X here but no one to ask as I have never heard about a compatriot of mine on this community. Thanks a lot for this question which will be the first thread I will follow

Hi DameCENO, does the Jolla 1 work? That's good to know, because i can take my to use it in Lagos. Display is broken, but the phone is still working.

@der.schultze Jolla 1 is flawless with any carrier in the country, never had an issue with sim card. So no matter the network provider, you are in the clear.

Hi DameCENO, I'm back in Lagos and I have bad news. All I tried, the Xperia don't want to work. Today I bought a new card from Glo. Michael

Jolla 1 works properly .

@der.schultze thanks so much for the info, I am fortunate to have delayed my purchase of an Xperia X as I would be looking for a buyer as we speak. The good thing is, more devices will be receiving official Sailfish ports, so there is hope. I think I should create a question concerning this issue as I need to update my 3 years old Jolla 1, but can't use a device without sim access, what do you think?

@DameCENO, yes, creating a question could not be wrong . Schultze

Sony support answered me now, that I shoult set the phone to 2G. I tried it already, but will try again in several settings. E.g. reboot after change the setting. Will be there in October and report after.

Thanks for the added inffo @der.schultze but still alarmingly scary for a native like myself, does it mean I would be constrained to using 2G on the Sailfish X if I decide to switch to it? This thread is of tremendous interest to me as it would let me know how to proceed. October is a bit far away but I think I will have to wait till then.

Fake SIM cards?

objectifnul ( 2018-08-11 23:48:56 +0200 )edit

Nope, they worked in a Samsung Galaxy S9+ and also in an pld Nokia at the shop.

Did you get connected (in roaming mode) with your home SIM card?
