Hi sailors, first of all a greeting to the community, I bought today a Sony Xperia XA2 (H3113) (it was price discounted :-) ) in prevision to install Sailfish 3 when it will be released, I searched some threads in the forum and I seem to have understood that I will simply have to purchase a Sailfish X license when my XA2 will be supported after Sailfish 3 release this autumn, am I right?

Meanwhile I have to do nothing, I suppose Jolla will release instructions of installation like the current guide with the Xperia X right?

Thanks

i've bought X 6 months before release, and then just installed SFOS when it was available for download. I think it's going to be the same with XA2

Great, so they should follow the same procedure of Xperia X, I'll just have to wait this fall

Thank you

I'm also waiting for XA2 since my Xperia X's upper mic has something wrong and Mobylife can't fix it, even though they've changed motherboard

I also highly suggest to make that clear. I walked the very first steps with jolla / sailfish and then was some years off. Now I am interested again and of a position not knowing every aspect I do not understand from the website what the difference between sailfish X and sailfish 3 is or to be more clear if sailfish X gets the features of sailfish 3.

I hope they will have the same features and they will differs just the name

In short, yes there'll be announcement about the XA2. I also think there'll be guides, like Sailfish X now has, but especially if XA2 needs something different/particular in the flashing process. Since XA2 is supposed to be one of the Xperia devices that are going to be implemented, I think it will roll out under the Sailfish X licence.

Sailfish 3 should be announced in Q3/2018 so for then we'll have to wait for it :)

good, let's also hope the procedure will be shorter than on Xperia X :)

Sailfish X is just a "re-branded version," or rather, alternative name for Sailfish OS. The operating system itself is the same - except that is was of course specifically made for Sony Xperia X (at first).

As per licensing, I would be very surprised if the purchasing and licensing model was changed for Xperia XA2. My assumption is that the whole process is pretty much identical compared with Xperia X.

My wild guess is that the "brand" Sailfish X will remain, and it will refer to the separately-purchasable Sailfish OS licenses that must be installed to existing Android phones manually. The previous models, that were Sailfish OS based to begin with, will remain with Sailfish OS name variant. I repeat, this is just my own thought, nothing to do with actual reality :)

Oh yeah, I forgot about Sailfish 3. It could be that Sailfish 3 will bring these two "brands" together, as Sailfish X3 looks more like a title for a game with a blue jump-and-shoot-man, and Sailfish 3X doesn't look that appealing either. Again, my personal opinions here (:

@Direc, I'd rather understand that the "X" in Sailfish X is due to Sailfish OS being implemented on Sony Open Devices Program's Xperia devices or at least I hope so. It would sound pretty stupid if they did Sailfish X to like some Samsung Galaxy phones. In my opinion, if new phones come to the same program, they'll change the title to match the group better than just Sailfish X with bundle of devices :D

Correct. Or, perhaps they just stick with Sailfish 3. We'll see in time :)
