GPS issue on Xperia X

Hi, it is so frustrating. GPS location service not starting anymore. I have to reboot the device to get the satellite symbol again when opening a program such as poor maps or gps info. Than it works for a while. When I turn GPS off in system settings for a couple of hours I can't activate it unless I reboot the device. Same behavior with android apps using GPS. I also tested it with alien dalvik completely masked via systemctl in terminal, because something has started alien dalvik again after disabling it under settings menu. No difference, so it is not a android related issue. Next day I can't activate GPS again unless a reboot. Seems like a power issue with GPS module imo? I am running 2.2.1.18. on 5121 Xperia X.

I have had similar problems with all my sailfish devices, Jolla1, AquaFish and the Xperia X. GPS is lost every now and then when it is turned off, but I have never suspected the systems setting causing this.

I have the same issue (not being able to start GPS) I use the CSD tool to get live in the GPS receiver again

How? CSD fails to get information from GPS. Is there a command line to reactivate it?

Yes, that’s right. I had smilar issues on my other Sailfish devices, too (Jolla 1, Aquafish). But I ged rid of them when I used the system settings instead of the quick action menu to toggle GPS on or of, if i remember correctly. I never had to restart the device to get it working again.

Note that you don't "toggle GPS on or off" when using the quick action or when toggling the top switch in settings --> location. Instead, you enable or disable positioning which in turn may or may not utilize GPS, depending on the settings.

That being said, I have never had a problem with GPS on my Jolla 1, Aquafish, and Xperia X. My current settings are individual, with all three features enabled.

And I didn't ever disable positioning, neither by quick action nor in settings. Instead, I try to keep apps under control that may use location services.

Yes I acknowledge that. The Problem is, I am running pure maps in partner space which is always on, so I had to toggle location service instead of such apps using it. As I said, it works several hours and after a while the switch does nothing anymore. I have got an answer from jolla.zendesk right now. They have done some fixes in sailfish 3 relating to that issue. I had to check the behavior after updating the device. Thank you!

Partner space is actually a thing on a released Sailfish OS device ? Interesting! :)
