Ahoy sailors, It would be great if we had an other half car holder, I don't know if it has been already asked.

What I get in mind is basically an other half with a mount that you can either bolt on your dashboard either sucked on your windscreen, powered or not it will depend of your use.

The car other half will detect that you are in car so the phone will automatically turn on the bluetooth and pair your in car devices and start your gps, media player, whatever you need during your car journey. All those option could be manage by an InCar option in the properties of your Jolla.

tell me if you are interested...

Strange but nice idea anyway! But propose your idea here: https://together.jolla.com/question/17129/poll-the-other-half-of-your-dreams/ I am pretty sure this question will be closed soon.

As I understand you, you intend to mount the entire TOH permanently in the car? Seems a bit fiddly to remove the current TOH and mount the phone in the car-TOH every time. But if you make it in two parts, one permanent mount in the car, and a TOH that easily connects to the mount, it could be very useful.

I'm pretty sure we could manage the InCar profile only with NFC but the main feature of the Jolla is TOH and its ability to bring the phone new capacity thats why I submit this Idea.

I build a CarTOH by my self an it works fabulus.

Combination of printed TOH + Fiat Blue & Me Tom Tom Navicarrier + Brodit Molex N900 Powersupply + Fiat Blue & Me Dashboard - Naviport

No Cables visible (will by done by internal contacts in next version), automatic waze startup when connected to BT (Situations), charging

@evo3de You're my man!!! I bloody love how you have build it, it is totally what I got in mind! It's marvelous to see it become real \o/. I don't know how we could do that but I would love to talk about it with you in private, I can't believe my eyes!!!

I agree with this Idea. I also thought about the concept of an Car Other Half. I think one useful solution is to design the COH to suit third party mounting units, as example the Brodit ProClip . So you only need to add the counterpart or some kind of connection piece on the other half. Via the extension power in it is also possible to supply the phone with power. And my personal favourite: if we have power, we can have an add-on display which is also mounted on the Car Other Half. As suggested by Xurb the NFC could switch the phone in Car mode. Then Notifications,SMS, IM-Messages and so on are sent via I²C-Bus to the add on display. Also it might be possible to show basic guidance information in case one run navigation software and need to switch it to background. If design allow it, the display should be detachable. Then as a second add on a loudspeaker would be imaginable. If there is no hands free solution in the car you can make calls via built in micro and hear the caller via speaker. But I am not shure if it is possible via I²C bus.

Break-out toh with connectors on the actual toh will make docks for desktop/car/whatever possible. Any dock making use of the currently available ports will end up with an upside down Jolla.

I don't think that I've well understand your break-out TOH with connector, you mean an half TOH?

Wireless charging combined with this car holder idea would be also very useful because navigation and gps tend to burn out battery life very fast if no charger is connected.

Wireless charging would be awesome but for now I had a moveable power pin in mind or a way to set up your jolla in TOH

I totally agree with this idea. See my earlier post here:

https://together.jolla.com/question/10382/idea-car-panel/

Only problem with the idea of using TOH is that it is a little tough to get it on and off. An adapted design for the car dock would be needed to have all the ports, data and power, working while still having easy access.

I disagree! Here is why...

  1. When sitting in car I wont dismounting the OH each time.
  2. Having such a "simple" OH that mainly connects contacts though is wasting potential of the idea of TOH.
  3. Passing through any contacts can further more be added easily to complexe OH ideas. So I suggest to standardise any connecting-through-contacts. But the credits for this idea goes to https://together.jolla.com/question/36312/idea-the-other-half-half-the-other-quarter/?answer=36418#post-id-36418

I agree, mostly with 1. I don't think putting on/off TOH every time I get in/out of my car is a good idea. I can do it dosens times a day and not sure if TOH thin plastic clips can survive it.

How about an TOH car station?... sth that can hold the Jolla in place with included wireless charging and still the car-profile could be used.

This would mean I get a "normal" TOH that looks not different from any other but includes the parts needed for wireless charging while the station hold the rest including the (additional?) NFC chip which identifies the car profile. Both together are the TOH Car. The carpart could always stay connected to the power supply, e.g., and would be even interchangeable with other carparts that just identify themselves via car-profile, in case you have two cars.

To hold the phone in place magnets or some kind of plastic holders could be used... Magnets would be cooler though :-P

Thanks for your answer ^^, you should check to the M.Bln. answer it looks pretty much as what you told. From my side I understand the concept of the OH of the OH but it's not how they had introduce TOH, sure change TOH each time you take your car could be not very easy to handle so the need of standard OH is understandable but it's not the true concept therefore not the way we should use it but it's only my point of you.

Well so far not many real Other Halves have been thrown on the marked, except for the Keyboard one which has the highest value in my opinion. But others all have mostly just one purpose.. the LED OH has very cool light effects, others have solar power, others wireless charging... but would be nice to combine several functionalities in ONE OH. I think this is already a good challenge .. a wireless charger with car kit would make a perfect combination that's why I said it this way.

My dream would be the solar powered wireless charged keyboard led supported other half... but I'm dreaming I know ;-)
