Phone calls muted at both ends [XA2], can't make calls
I have a rather annoying problem with my Xperia XA2 (3.0.0.8):
From time to time the phone calls can be established, but neither I hear what the person on the other end says nor does the other person hear me. The phone is not manually muted (when screen is on during calls, the button is off). It doesn't matter whether I am called or whether I establish the call. It happens in any ambience, so the quiet ambience seems to be not the problem. Only thing that helps so far is rebooting the phone. Then I can make calls like expected again, until at some point the issue pops up again.
Edit 2019-02-12: Happens to me too every now and then, I noticed that if I use headphones (plugged in), the call audio works, but without the headphones the call is muted. So it seems to be an issue routing the audio to the speaker correctly.
Edit 2019-02-21: Duplicate of https://together.jolla.com/question/161016/bug-no-sound-during-call/
Edit 2019-02-21: @raketti I don't think it is a duplicate, as the thread owner of the other thread only says that he/she can't hear anything (except when loudspeaker turned on, and reproducably), but this thread is about non-reproducable muted calls on both ends.
I too have experienced this problem with my XA2. Yesterday a phone conversation was cut off three times during the 20 minute call. Also I tried to continue both as caller and as recipient but had the problem in both situations.
DK-Sailor ( 2019-02-12 19:53:20 +0200 )editThis sometimes happens to me when my XA2 was previously connected to my Volvo Car via Bluetooth. I think it fails to switch back to it's internal speaker/mic automatically. Rebooting fixes this, but recently I also managed to switch speakers from within the call-screen (might have been introduced with the last update, not sure).
mlohse ( 2019-02-14 13:28:30 +0200 )editI just had the same problem now, I wasn't able to hear a call for the last half day. No sound on both ends. I tried multiple reboots without success. Now, the twentieth or so reboot has helped. This is a show stopper for usimg the phone.
SagaciousT ( 2019-02-16 12:02:17 +0200 )editSpecially given your edit of 2019-02-12, regarding wired a headset always working.
Try cleaning (compressed air, gently rubbing with some cleaning device like a cottonswab/Q-tip, or extremely gently rubbing with some rigid object like a wooden [ = non conducting ] toothpick. Do not use a conducting object like a pocket knife's metal pick to avoid shorts. Do not rub to strongly to avoid bending the contacts) any lint that might be caught at the bottom of the audio jack and which might be confusing the plug-in detection.
Such "no sound" problems might be an actual bug in the audio routing (pulse audio not correctly activating the right output it supposed to), but might as well be just lint pushing on the plug detection trigger and making the phone think that there's a "ghost" headset plugged in.
DrYak ( 2019-02-21 15:36:14 +0200 )editI have the same problem . If i unplug headphones, then make a call. I have to put the call on speaker and back to handset before I can hear anything
