Whilst searching for a solutiion to another Sony problem, I came across this article.(https://www.xda-developers.com/sony-xperia-android-pie-unlock-bootloader-drm-fix-camera.
As Pie for the XA2 family is scheduled for release on March 4th ( Sony website ), I would suspect the full OS image for the XA2 family may be scheduled for around then. But who knows!

It seems you are confusing the mentioned Android update to Pie (9.0) to be related with Jollas compatibility layer Aliendalvik for XA2 (DRM keys are yet another thing). These are completely unrelated. Jolla is working to adapt their Aliendalvik to the XA2. But that will be based on Oreo (8.1) and is not dependent on any official Sony system updates.
It's just hard work to adapt to Android hardware (thanks to closed source binary blobs) so this is why there's a delay for the XA2.
I guess what he actually means is something different: When unlocking your bootloader from a Android Pie version, Sony (as claimed in the article) does not erase important stuff anymore related to camera etc.
This has indeed nothing to do with aliendalvik. But as our devices are all coming initially with Android, it's still important from which version we came.

XA2 camera does not break when unlocking the bootloader. It works perfectly fine. The argument made in the article seems off to me.
A full SFOS release for the XA2 family in march would also seem very off to me, as it was promised for December 2018 already and postponed a little bit. Postponing for more than two months seems unreasonable to me.

As above linked post explains, they are required for some special Sony-specific camera features to work. Once you are using another system (such as Sailfish or a custom ROM) you'll be left with a basic camera in most cases and a wrecked one (e.g. green images due to wrong sensor settings) in the worst.
With Android Pie this seems to have been fixed by Sony but as stated in my answer that's irrelevant to Sailfish. Unless of course, Sony makes some improvements to their drivers in the Open Device programme as well
rozgwi ( 2019-01-10 01:48:53 +0200 )edit@rozgwi - But if you were to: a) port Sony camera features, and b) mount Sony 'ta' partition to boot.img, (which Android devs have done, enabling stock Sony camera function and quality on non-Sony roms), then it becomes relevant. Maybe it's different on Pie, as mentioned... I did wonder about it on SFOS, (see my answer and comments here - https://together.jolla.com/question/189339/xperia-x-backup-drm-keys#189340), but since aliendalvik file system is based on KK, which pre-dates any of the ports, etc., that are available, (and doing it all from scratch is way over my head), I didn't have much hope...

And looking at how complicated it seems to get fingerprint sensors or the double tap feature working properly with those I doubt that the TA will become relevant in the near future
