Hi all, I have little trouble understanding installation guide of SFOS X on Xperia X. There is no any complex complete quide - that is the first problem - there exist many guides all over the Internet. Official guide from Jolla says that you have to upgrade your Android 8 to at least version 34.4.A.0.xxx (i cant remember specific version), but Sony guide to unlock bootloader says that you have to downgrade to Android 6 and use DirtyCow to backup drm keys and root. So first instruction excludes the other :D So, is anyone here who has real practical experience with complete backing up DRM and installation of official Sailfish X into Xperia X F5121?

I presume progress looks something like this: 1) backup DRM keys from TA partition 2) unlock bootloader 3) buy and install SFOS X

But I need more details about steps. My phone is Xperia X with Android 8 and bootloader unlock allowed=yes.

I have my drm backed up, and I have Sailfish installed. You can find guides on XDA - https://forum.xda-developers.com/x-compact/how-to/backup-ta-drm-using-dirty-cow-t3514482 - and here on jt - https://together.jolla.com/question/168711/xperia-x-backup-ta-partition-before-unlocking-bootloader/ - about backing up drm.. It's not hard, just might require a temporary downgrade. After you have the backup, then you just upgrade again.. Only problem with it as far as sfos goes, is that there is currently no way to use the backup. Some XDA devs, (munjeni and serajr specifically), have made tools that can mount ta partition to boot img, so it's probably possible, but needs some adaptation...

If anyone is interested, an xda dev posted a tutorial on how to mount ta partition, (which included drm), onto boot img, to get full Sony camera functionality - https://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/poc-real-trim-instead-drm-fix-t3552893/post71520744 - I was hoping to try to adapt it for us, but one of the steps is to copy information between directories in ramdisk, but our ramdisk doesn't have the same info, (nothing in /dev folder). I don't really know enough about this stuff to mess with it...

Notice that Jolla resource link text still refers to availability of Emma (useful if all goes wrong) for Windows users, but since June 2018 old versions automatically update and now require Log-in username and password only available to authorised Sony dealers.

Didn't realize... I have the same copy for a couple of years, but haven't used it for several months. I never installed it, but just extracted the exe to an empty folder and run the program from there. I wonder if it will still work...

Flashtool is in my experience a good replacement for Emma, and unlike Emma it's cross platform.

Flashtool is great. Emma comes in handy sometimes for directness and simplicity, (little to no user options), and officiality...
