The problem of contacts syncing persists: Since upgrading go 3.0.11, my whatsapp contacts list is stuck at 350 contacts. Adding new contacts or deleting old contacts will not update the whatsapp contacts list. If someone sends me a message, even if registered in google address book, only the number will appear in whatsapp. And Whatsapp contact list continues to show contacts I deleted in address book.

How are you using WhatsApp on Sailfish without android support? That's the only android app I must have

@judderman, He's not using WhatsApp without android support? I think @danfin has got JP, Aqua fish, Sailfish X etc. with full Sailfish commercial licence :)

And to the issue itself; this syncing between contacts on Android apps has been an issue for ages. It's always taken time to update the databases to use correct up to date contact information. On Sailfish 2.0 Jolla updated that a lot but yet still the main problem lies on Android apps. I think it's some kind of miscommunication between Sailfish and Alien dalvik on the contact issue.

correct. I use a Xperia X with full license, and I would appreciate better support for my few android apps.

What kind of support do you require apart from this contact problem? Jolla is about to raise the Android support API levels significantly any time soon. This should help with the app issues when an app requires higher Android APIs that we now currently have :)

apart from that whatsapp contacts sync issue, mostly I am a happy sailor, however: 1) proper contact display including a notes field 2) google to-do list integration 3) faster and reliable contact sync two ways would make me very happy. It appears to me editing a contact in Jolla may result in two contacts in google.

If you'll search a bit deeper you'll find my solution...

well I would not call this a solution but it can be a workaround, which is not quite reliable however.

  1. refreshing contact list in whatsapp results in almost random number of contacts. After 371 next refresh counts only 346, for example.
  2. subsequent refreshes may result in displaying all contacts
  3. editing contact's phone number in sailfish will not necessarily sync to google contacts
  4. this bug is well known since sailfish 1 and persists in sailfish 3

currently android contacts display o.k. after I deleted the local database following @samule solution. It took quite a number of syncs however, but I am up and running, but astonished the problem persists after a major version step.

Dear @Direc, I had two options:

  • Wait until now (72 hours after the original question) in order to include the link to my solution (it takes a while as you know), OR
  • Mention in few seconds that I already found a solution, since @danfin could realise by himself searching a bit better - see guidelines

I choose the second: it's a matter of good habits in my opinion :-)

astonished me too the problem persists, @danfin

seems that android support is not a priority
