I noticed that the screen doesn't stay on while navigating with Here WeGo from the Jolla Store. Is there a solution for this besides using the setting "keep screen on while charging"? The same problem appears when watching YouTube (in the browser).

I hope someone can help me. I really like the Sailfish OS, but there are so many bugs. I did write a list on my phone, but the screen turning off is the most problematic one.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers!

Yep, there are lots of bugs in SailfishOS. Your post is also a duplicate, we try to avoid duplicates if possible, but sometimes the search facility is not always forthcoming, as we all tend to use varying search terms for the same thing.

Notably, the link above is from 2014 - 4 years and problem possibly not addressed. Welcome to TJC where progress can be awfully slow at times.

But who uses Here WeGo when there is Puremaps?

Here WeGo is quite popular if you haven't noticed and it is available in the Jolla store. Puremaps is neither available in the Jolla store nor the Android store. So basically you can't navigate with SailfishOs?

Is there a workaround?

Maybe it's not a bad idea that I created a new entry about this bug as people might be interested if there is any news on this topic.

Conclusion: this bug hasn't been addressed for 4 years and probably won't be in the near future.

@Sateriis - Puremaps is found on Openrepos; https://openrepos.net/content/rinigus/pure-maps

On the subject of screen blanking, I suppose as a workaround, you could enable 'Demo' mode, this keeps the screen on until you turn the 'demo' off. This involves using Terminal (developer mode) to install mce-tools (devel-su pkcon install mce-tools) and then in terminal, type: mcetool --set-demo=on and of course, to turn off, replace on with off. This is a global affect when applied.

Guys, why are you closing this without asking on which device and version this happens?

It might not be a duplicate after all. I am using Here Maps and other Android Navs since ages without the screen switching off. That was solved in 2015 already...

This is a new bug probably related to XA2 range and oreo Android layer IMO. The new android layer is running within a container now and needs to be tailored into Sailfish once again. This might be a new symptom of containerization and i can reproduce it on XA2. Yes, Puremaps does not have this problem which is another hint the problem is rooted in the Android layer intergration.

I did some further testing and am now sure, using the new 8.1 Android layer, all Android apps that want to keep the screen on are affected. During the test i discovered that tapping the screen right when it starts to fade into black, the time out duration is doubled.

1st tap after 15sec timeout 2nd tap gives 30sec timeout 3rd tap gives 1 min timeout and so on. I tried until 5th tap.

Adaptive dimming is really a nice feature that i came to appreciate once i discovered. Any reason not to close then? https://together.jolla.com/question/201388/here-maps-locks-the-screen/ I've always found it slightly aggressive to close threads i am not involved in :p

@mosen: Looks like there is some kind of bug status to tjc page reflection hiccup (the latter still says "in progress" despite the bug fix being included in 3.0.3.9 release). I pinged relevant people about it...
