Battery life with Elisa vs Telia

With my usage pattern the battery life of my XperiaX has usually been ~36 hours (recharge every second night). Recently that has shortened so, that I have had to charge almost every night.

A couple of weeks ago my employer (I have company SIM) decided to change the operator from Elisa to Telia. To my surprise the battery lasts now easily over two days/nights !?

What could explain this ? I live in a capital area of Finland, so Elisa should have strong (4G) network here.

It could be: Difference in amount/kind of network traffic (towards the phone) operators allow. If the phone is constantly woken up from suspend to handle (and discard?) packets -> affects standby time.

Nevertheless, it sounds quite odd that only by switching an operator, you'd be able to get drastically better battery life. It's sounds plausible to me but yet still I don't think it's likely

It is very likely and normal that different operator networks are optimized differently. There are several network parameters that can be set to optimize for call setup time, linger and throughput. If the network is optimized for best throughput then mobiles in it spend more time in active channels, else they drop quickly to listening on broadcast channel.

I can actually confirm the drain on Elisa 4G. If I use 3G instead, the battery consumption drops almost 2,5 times lower. Is there something that can be done on device to be less active regarding the mobile network?
