I recently bought a Sony Xperia XA2 (single sim) and loaded sailfish 3 on to it. I cannot make calls from android apps I've installed such as WhatsApp, or ringcentral. To be clear I can initiate the call, but it seems they don't get access to my microphone and speaker. Also when I try to increase the volume, Sailfish will just adjust the volume of the ringtone instead of the android app making the call. I am new to Sailfish so it is possible I'm missing something. Sorry if this question has been asked before, but I couldn't find it.

I'm categorizing this as a possible bug as it seems this was something that used to work on older versions of Sailfish. Though I did not find mention of it, it is possible that this is a known bug and would be fixed during the final release.

I'm assuming this would not affect anything, but I do not have microG installed.

Thanks in advance for your guys' help. Apologies in advance if I'm breaking any rules.

Edit: I can see video during a video call. The issue is that neither I, nor the person I'm calling can hear any sound.

Thanks Again

Is it a XA2 or a XA3 you bought? XA3 is unlikely to work and in your post you reference both models

For me same behaviour WhatsApp on XA2 Plus / Sailfish X 3.0.1.14. This is due to the Beta state of the system.

Where did you download WhatsApp+ from?

It's not because of beta state. It is because of permissions. Please read my answer: https://together.jolla.com/question/201651/xa2-sailfish-3-android-calling-broken/?answer=209771#post-id-209771

Edit: This this false, I'm sorry. It is an unresolved issue. But please do try these steps in my other comment.

Sailfish is not giving the app permissions by default. Go to:

  • Settings
  • Apps
  • Whatsapp
  • Android settings (this loads slowly, give it a while)
  • Authorization (or something like that, I translated from my set language)
  • Enable whatever needed to do with whatsapp what you need it to do.

Edit: This is false, it is an unresolved issue. But please try these steps anyway, as it might still help with this or other issues with whatsapp.

This is necessary, but it does not solve the problem.

Problem solution. Might not working.

  1. Reinstalling Android 8.0 through the application of Flash tool Emma (For Sony XA2 Plus I chose H4413 50.1.A.13.123 Customized_NOBA 1316-2877 R5A User-Live COM Software Update Content Erase Developer_World).
  2. Installing Whatsapp. Calling using Whatsapp. Whatsapp working.
  3. Installing the latest version of Sailfish OS 3.0.3.10.
  4. Installing Whatsapp. Calling using Whatsapp. Whatsapp working.
  5. Updating Sailfish OS to 3.1.0.11. Whatsapp working.
  6. Reinstalling android support. Whatsapp not working.

Whatsapp v. 2.19.188 (at least this version) works on Sailfish 3.1.0.11. Messages, audio calls and video calls.

Downgraded to 2.19.188. Whatsapp not working.
