can you bulk export contacts? [answered]

Does anybody here happen to know if there is a possibility to bulk export the contacts from a sailfish 3 device? All I could find was a way to share single contacts, but I would like to export all my contact to import them into a different phone.

Aunty google wasn't helpful with that, so I wonder if someone here might know how to do this.

Thanks in advance

Just try:

devel-su -p /usr/bin/vcardconverter -e /home/nemo/kontakte.vcf

source [german language]:

https://sailfishmods.de/2015/02/kontakte-exportieren/ (with many thanks to Chris for gathering those basics there)

Cheers

@tobset thanks for your praise :)

I currently have the problem that my Carddav server has crashed. With both methods that I wrote on my site, I could not save the contacts! This means that this method only works if the contacts were imported into the smartphone via vcf or if a contact was added directly to the smartphone. But not if you use a Carddav server!

After a long search, I found a VERY simple solution. Thus, I have to submit an improvement proposal directly to Jolla!

How To:

  1. Open the contact app
  2. Pull Down Menu> Select Contacts
  3. Now manually select each contact *
  4. Press the share icon in the lower right corner
  5. and send via Bluetooth or e-mail.

finished :)

* @Jolla I ask you to extend the contact app with a simple function! Add a "mark all" in the pull down menu. Furthermore, in the share list, add two entries "Save to device" and "Save to SD card". believe me! You will really make us happy with that :)

PS: Today I will update my post on my website and add this method.

So what's the bet Jolla will read (and listen!) to this comment?

I guess you should at least convert it to an answer or even open up a new thread. Thanks.

And if Jolla will extend UI then I beg beg and beg that they extend the fields of people app to show all possible vcf standard fields!

If you make a backup of contacts using the integrated backup system then the compressed backup will contain a vcf file with all contacts which then can be imported to the other device.

I think there may be some desktop client that can import the contacts in which case you might also be able to export them from there.

You can for sure copy the sqlite file that holds all your contacts but I don't know how useful that is to you (if you are into scripting etc. you should be able to create a script to generate a contact on the next phone or a .vcf for every entry).

The file is called contacts.db, there are 2 versions of it, one accessible and modifiable by other programs and a "master" version that only the Contacts application can edit (located under the privileged directory tree) as far as I understood in the past.

i'd need smth standardized, a (couple of) vcf files or so ... the internal sql-db is not good enough ,,
