Hi,

I'm currently using win10mobile and am looking for a new os after the end of life of my phones os in december. I don't want to use iOS or Android, so I am pretty interested in SailfishOS. I've read in this board that the users are experiencing several bugs, which doesn't bother me that much, as long as the developers are working on a fix. Would you say that you are happy with the jolla support? Do they acknowledge your bug reports and communicate honestly?

Thank you for answering!

PS: Would you rather go for the Xperia XA2 or the XA2 Plus? I prefer the size of the XA2, but the additional RAM of the XA2 Plus could be an advantage in performance.

Well, I came from a Lumia 950XL, and... what can I say? I tried android and didn't like it. In my book, SailfishOS is a good choice. It's not perfect; there are a big llack of a Apps, but that is true to Windows Mobile too. On the other hand, there are some great native apps... and the system is really cool. The worst part of Sailfish experience is the android compatibility, thats is necessary and kind of broken at same time. You can buy some XA2 , try the system, and, if you don't like it, return to android. Dont mind about RAM; the system is very fast and fluid even in a normal XA2.

Thank you for your answer. It looks like that there is an app for most of my needs, so that won't be a problem in my case. May I ask which phone you are currently using? Do you think 2GB of RAM ist enough for the android app support as well?

Yes, I'm using a standart XA2 right now, and I'm happy whit it. 2GB of RAM are enough for a normal android use (banking, whatsapp, social aplication, etc). If you want to play android games, maibe more RAM are better, but don't expect a very fluid experience. And the quality of photos are far worst than what we had in WM10.

I don't really play mobile games, so that won't be an issue. Well, I'm using the Lumia 650 so luckily I'm not used to high quality images like the ones of your 950XL :) Do you miss something from WM10?

I'm happy because almost everything is working on XA2, I tried the first realease with Android Support and there was a lot of bugs, after a few releases is now usable for me. I think that Jolla is always working hard to make the OS stable, you have community to help you and a lot of topics with known issues. What is annoying is that sometimes you will have to reboot, restart UI, have some tricks for volumen bar, there is no sound for Whatsapp notifications, and other things, but I think that Jolla will fix those issues.

But of course there are many things not solved for years. Even things which seem pretty easy to fix. Sometimtimes the focus seems a bit strange. There were introduced new UIs instead of fixing real issues.

Thanks for your answers. There are several bugs in win mobile as well which were never fixed and won't be in the future. So if some of the fixes take a year or more, thats ok for me. If the sound notification doesn't work, does it vibrate instead?

First of all, don't expect the kind of support in Android. Jolla people are nice and smart but they are few, and they can fix only so much problems in a given time. On the other hand, this is the only OS where you have a chance to expose an issue or a proposal and have the developers actually get it, take it into consideration and possibly implement it.

About the phones, I have an XA2 Plus because large screens are more useful IMO. The big drawback is not RAM, it's rather the amount of flash. 64 GB versions are not sold officially where I live so I am stuck with slightly more than 10 GB free and currently no chance to use the SD card on Android.

By the way, many of the bugs are actually in the AOSP middleware, so e. g. users of LineageOS on the same device are affected by them as well.

Yes. Before XA2 Plus is owned a XZ1 Compact with LineageOS and i need to admit that i had problems too. I always used Sailfish because i own the first Jolla phone but today this phone is unusable if you need to do more that 1 things at time

Back in 2016 when I got the Jolla C I could not do even 1 thing at a time on the Jolla 1. It OOM'd one single open application.

Thanks for your answers. Didn't know about the SD card limitation for Android apps. It seems that i can't get the 64GB version in my country as well. How much space does sailfish use on your phone?

You have about 1.5 GB free in the system partition and 18 GB in the home partition. There is a guide on TJC about expanding the system partition (reducing home).

I would not really call that support: Support happens when you file a question to Jolla's customer service and this will be answered politely and as helpful as can be. Technical issues on the system can take a long time to get fixed, but it's a stable working system. Sometimes I think, given on Jolla company size, it's quite amazing what they do. On the other hand, android has some features we better not dream of... like T9 support in the dialler or even a bit less battery consumption. Then again, my Xperia X works all day, it has whatsapp and twitter and normally no restarts or other tricks are necessary. If, for example, you'd want to see your google calendars synced on the android side of your XA2.. there you have a feature available in preferences but not woking since Sailfish was ported to XA2, and I am sure they will solve the issue some time. For now don't dream of opening a android train itinerary, have your plan saved as calendar event and show this in sailfish calendar. Sync is broken since forever.

The software is far from perfect, but it does all that I want her to. A lot of stuff could be much better, like the calendar for instance or the gallery ... but there is always something one can complain about. Jolla is doing a good job ...

A proper tablet with sailfish OS would be a nice thing though.

Thanks for your answers. Using the sailfish calendar and mail application is perfectly fine for me. What don't you like about the gallery?

@sailr I do not like the notification in terms of the calendar for instance. I have several calendar types added, but I cannot select them when I add a date. There is only the default one. The other does not appear. A listing of the events according to the calendars ...

The gallery: I have everything separated into different folders, but this does not show in the gallery. Then it would be nice to see the amount of images in a folders, overall size ... etc.
