Tracked by Jolla (In release)

After update to 3.3.0.16 (Rokua), Google calendar sync does not work, no calendar entries are received. It did work previously, though I had disabled it for the time being due to the duplication of events bug. Syncing mails works fine.

This is a corporate Google account with 2FA.

My device is Xperia XA2 Plus.

I looked at journalctl and there's entries such as this:

I can confirm, if I delete an event from the Google calendar, my XA2 using 3.3.0.16 will no longer sync. If I delete the Google account in Settings and re-add it, the calendar will sync again...until I delete an event.

Do you have several Sailfish phones accessing your google account ?

wosrediinanatour ( 2020-06-08 23:52:34 +0200 )edit

No, I have only one Sailfish phone accessing it. I mean, I do have several Sailfish phones but I haven't kept those other ones turned on in a long time.

I can no longer add my Google account and get it to sync:

Jolla have told me (in response to a support request) that they have a fix for the Google calendar sync issue to be released in the next OS update in September (09/2020). Let's hope this works although sooner would be better.

Same issue here on 3.3.0.16 with a Gsuite account, on a XA2.

Used to work before (albeit problems encountered in 3.2) but now sync of calendars fails with the same kind of error message:

same here on my XA2. Deleting and re- installing the google account does not help. Instead, the now empty calendar will not even show any of my calendars.

danfin ( 2020-05-15 18:35:43 +0200 )edit

I deleted the account and recreated it, and it worked for the initial sync. I have a gut feeling that the problem happens when one of my weekly appointments gets changed (as an exception) - I'll do some more testing and will report here.

cartron ( 2020-05-15 20:06:03 +0200 )edit

I changed nothing at all and it did not sync, so I deleted the account, restarted, re-installed the account. No calendars showing, no sync.

danfin ( 2020-05-16 09:36:44 +0200 )edit

Out of the blue, without changing anything, the calendar entries were synced on weekend.

But I get the duplicate calendar entries problem now. So I'll again remove this calendar and wait for next update.

I have been unable to reproduce this "disallowed field mutation" issue unfortunately. I was able to reproduce the "API key invalid" issue (which should be resolved by https://git.sailfishos.org/mer-core/buteo-sync-plugins-social/merge_requests/61 according to my testing). If someone can provide some step-by-step instructions on how I can repro the "disallowed field mutation" issue, that would be greatly appreciated!

Right, so I did some more tests, and I think I found what causes the sync to stop working for me: - when adding or modifying / moving appointments using either Google Calendar or iCal (MacOS), the GSuite appointments are correctly synchronised to my XA2 - but as soon as I delete one event, sync fails, and the deleted event still appears on my XA2, and no further sync works

I get this in the logs (journaltcl):

May 15 22:39:32 Sailfish google-calendars-client[26852]: [W] unknown:0 - ERROR: "Calendars" request with account 36 experienced error: QNetworkReply::NetworkError(ProtocolInvalidOperationError) May 15 22:39:32 Sailfish google-calendars-client[26852]: [W] unknown:0 - ERROR: unable to parse event data from request with account 36 ; got: May 15 22:39:32 Sailfish google-calendars-client[26852]: [W] unknown:0 - ERROR: "{" May 15 22:39:32 Sailfish google-calendars-client[26852]: [W] unknown:0 - ERROR: " \"error\": {" May 15 22:39:32 Sailfish google-calendars-client[26852]: [W] unknown:0 - ERROR: " \"code\": 400," May 15 22:39:32 Sailfish google-calendars-client[26852]: [W] unknown:0 - ERROR: " \"message\": \"API key not valid. if what you found is the cause, we still don't have the medicine ;(

I have the same problem too... :-/

wosrediinanatour ( 2020-06-03 09:36:24 +0200 )edit

also any CalDAV solution in Android will not work, so we can't have a todo-list that syncs.

danfin ( 2020-06-03 09:38:51 +0200 )edit

Had the same problem. I have deleted an event and synchronization stops. I tried to delete the account an recreate the account and it worked for me.

Then I found maybe a better workaround at Jolla Service and Support.
How to heal Google calendar or contact sync
I did not test it but I will do it next time the problem appears.

hot ( 2020-06-07 13:47:55 +0200 )edit

Today I have shifted an event and the synchronization stops. Tried to delete gcal.ini and resync

devel-su
rm -f /home/nemo/.local/share/system/privileged/Sync/gcal.ini

synchronization worked.

Maybe another information:

  • Before the sync problem I had the problem with multiple copies of an event. Then I realized very late that the sync problem i not due to bad connectivity.
  • I have XA2 dual sim

Update: I realized that I had only ~500MB left on the XA2 (An Android app told me). I freed space and then recreated the Google account. I don't want to jinx it, but at this moment it is working...

Update 2: It again does not work. And it doesnt work on another Xperia X...maybe it is an issue on Google's side?

Update 3 July 5yh: It seems to work (temporarily?), but now each entry 'is threefould'.

Update 4 Oct 1st with new SailfishOS 3.4:

For me mobile -> Google: works Google -> mobile: fails

I have a fresh flashed 3.3 updated to 3.4.

I have transferred my data to a calDAV/CardDAV server and this works quite well. Fixup from Sailfish does not seem on the way, and if it's a Google issue we can wait even longer.

This "API key not valid" issue should be resolved by https://git.sailfishos.org/mer-core/buteo-sync-plugins-social/merge_requests/61, but not sure if there's two issues showing up in this case or not.

Thank you very much!

@chris.adams, when can we expect that MR to hit our devices? Or is there a way to install it manually? I can no longer see any google calendar events at all because I tried to recreate the account to solve the sync issue, but now it does not sync at all.

I had a work around which instead of using the Google account for accessing my work gsuite calendar I used the private calendar share link from Google and pasted that into the online calendar account

Now works Not perfect But it works for now
