It is possible to create multiple calendars on the Jolla phone:

  • Contacts containing a birthday date will appear in a birthday calendar
  • Facebook appointments stored in a specific calendar
  • Creating a CalDAV account also creates a new calendar

If you run the calendar application you can select Manage Calendars at the pulley menu. This allows you to select the active calendars. If a selected calendar is disabled the reminders appear anyway.

Example: The Jolla reminds me of birthdays, even though the birthday calendar is disabled. This is quite annoying if you have a lot of contacts in your People app.

Correct behaviour would be: Reminder of Events within disabled calendars do not appear.

I described the bug in a more general way as it is a valid bug for all kinds of calendar entries.

@jukey I'm not sure it happens with anything else other than birthdays, but I understand. Thanks for your corrections!

It happens with any calendar. I am having the same issue with synced caldav calendar, even after disabling the account in the general settings.

I have the same issue. I sync my wife's calender through Fruux, and now I'm being hassled with all her event reminders. I have it disabled. I only want to enable it sometimes when making appointments with friends, and then disable it again. The only way to get rid of the reminders now is to delete the Fruux account, or so it seems.
