I had this some nights in a row now: phone is on, no applications or covers running, around 25% battery, i connect the stock charger; sometimes it just charges, sometimes it asks if this is charging only/usb mode/...

next thing in the morning. phone shows 100% charged, but it's not running anymore. instead it's in the phone-is-off charging display and have to boot the phone to get it back.

the expected behaviour is that the phone does not shut down without me telling it to do so.

I have solved that problem checking that charging "works" (charging icon instead of battery icon). If not then by removing the USB cable and reconnecting it.

so you're saying that it's actually not charging, then drains the battery, shuts off, and then the phone-is-off charging programme kicks in and by the time I wake up it's off but charged?

Yes, I think something like that is happening.

I'd appreciate some pointers how to maybe do a couple-of-hours-boot-persistent monitoring to catch the bugger:)
