Create a single hand use sized device

I tried using Jolla during an international trip when you are in a hurry and one hand is always busy with e.g. holding a handle in a bus while you try to check on the map where you need to exist the bus or when you try sending a message to a friend that meets you out of the bus. And.. first Jolla device is not huge, but it's just a little too wide for single handed use (by my hand that is of quite an average size).

It's exactly the leftmost column of letters in the keyboard that you cannot press comfortably. You can sort of slide device in your hand to do it, but that's not super-easy and not really for on-the-go situations. There are similar issues with reaching the top and especially top-left parts of the screen, but with pulley menus and left-right swipes you don't need to do it that much.

You know, there is a reason why iPhone isn't going the Galaxy Note way still. It is not for everybody, some people prefer huge screens at any cost, but I really would like to have a device that fits to single hand. It can even have the same resolution that will look more "retina" just because DPI will be higher. Hopefully there are many other people like me. I agree with you: when I bought the device without seeing it, I was not really worried, the size difference did not seem that big, and I kind of liked the idea of a bigger screen. But, as a phone, I think the N9 size is just perfect. The Jolla is just a bit too big to be used one handed, or to put in the front jeans pocket.

It is not that bad, and most of my friends and colleagues have bigger devices yet, so maybe we have to give it some time to get comfortable using it.

I have tested sailfishos on N9 and I must agree with you. It would be nice to see sailfishos on a 3.9" screen or such maybe with same resolution as Jolla Phone(qHD) has because N9 has little to low res.

But atm. I doubt jolla can make yet another phone. We can only hope there are bigger corporations willing to license sailfishos...

Btw. I must say most consumers has been so blind fooled by "bigscreen + hires hype" going on atm :(

Probadly thats why Jolla choosed 4.5" instead of keep N9 3.9" screen that definitivly is good enought holding one handed an.

Indeed, I need to try sailfish on N9, maybe I like it more there. It's a pity my N9 needs to be fixed then (SIM card adapter and screen are a little broken, so it's fine as a test device, but not for everyday use)

I would also welcome a smaller device. I am constantly afraid of dropping my Jolla. It is too big for one-handed use (at least for my hands - and the're not that small!). I had a Lumia 820 and a Lumia 620. The Lumia 620 became my main device and the Lumia 820 found a new owner. It was just too big for me. I know we are in a time where bigger is considered better, but not everyone agrees. :-)

Another option is waiting for an official port for Android phones. I will then buy a small Android device and install Sailfish OS on it. My sister's waiting for a good port for her N9. She prefers its size over that of her Jolla.

What if they make a otherhalf from rubber or something like that so yiu would have more grip?

Totally agree here. I've posted in the Sailfish-on-other-hardware thread about a couple of Sony devices which might be a good size/resolution tradeoff and have the right hardware to run Sailfish.

Size has been one of the reason I don't have the Jolla yet. I would definitely prefer a n9/808 -like format (4").

About thickness, I have found that ticker devices are easier to handle in one hand. For example the 808 tickness is okay for me (and it would allow to brings an even bigger battery, a real camera or a hardware keyboard).

I also discovered that Jolla didn't include a lanyard hole in the main half. It is something that saved my n8 from falling a lot of times when using it one handed.
