This article talks about that "You will soon be able turn your Android device into a Sailfish device"

Jolla pioneered the ability to use existing Android hardware adaptations with the libhybris project and the first Jolla device is built upon an Android hardware adaptation (but is not Android, just uses the hardware adaptation)

What devices would you like to see SailfishOS on - what chipset, how much RAM, how big internal storage, what resolution and screen size, cores and speed? .. and why?

If a device exists already as an answer, vote it up!

Acer Iconia A1! I don't like Android so would love to use Sailfish in that too! :)

Droid 5, if leaks are true it should be very comparable to current Jolla (S4 dualcore, 1Gb RAM, 16Gb internal) but better screen 720p and HWKB

Should the title read 'Android-based devices'?

I see a lot of demand in the Answer section for Jolla (or nemo) Tablet. But before that happens, you must support landscape first. Please make it happen ;-)

I think this would be a nice improvement for the main Jolla website: allowing people to sign-up with their e-mail and current phone model they would wish to have Sailfish OS on. They could then be announced when Sailfish is available for their phone. I have friends who are interested in this.

the jolla phone. hopefully for a few more years. unlike all other manfacturers where support and updatds stop after 1-2 years. i love the idea of a phone with support of the entire lifespane -kind of like linux distributions with lts, where 5+ years are common. i don't need o bigger, better.faster device every time just because my mobile contractor would like to offer me a new one to pay off for the next two years.
so so if you really need a name: after about 2+ more years with my jolla phone i i would like to see sailfish on a modular phone like project ara, fairphone and similar are promising. can you do that jolla hardware makers?

+1 for jolla2 and this time not a cheap one, but something that can compare to the N950 with up to date specs and sold not too cheap

Let's first start with the theoretical device, that I will call Jolla 2

Specs:

  • 4 cores, >= 1.2 GHz because 4 cores seems to be the norm nowadays, and 1.2 is quite nice. More cores also allows the daemons to work better and smoother the UI.
  • Decent GPU, don't know about GPU so I won't comment here
  • Enough disk (16 is a min, 128 nice)
  • 2 Gigs of RAM as a min, for multitasking with multiple heavy tasks
  • At least a HD screen. qHD is a bit small.

Features

  • Low power screen
  • Radio
  • The usual stuff (like a decent camera, a LED, good battery etc.)
  • Interaction with OH and project Ara (changeable optionnal components (keyboard, camera ?)

With the OH fix, the Jolla already have a very long battery life.

The lack of an LPM screen is the main thing that has me unsure about upgrading to a Jolla (apart from whether it'll actually work, that is). It's hard to contemplate living without the N9's always-active screen; I've even stopped wearing my watch because of it

even with OH fix, it need a real improvement on software over power usage screen/cpu improve battery life for use every day (not only standby mode 500h useless for smartphone but acceptable only for true classic mobile phone) https://together.jolla.com/question/14126/optimize-sailfish-with-mageec-project-which-profiles-and-generates-energy-efficient-code/

The Ouya game console is a designed to be hackable device, and while they use android under the hood, they try as hard as possible to remove that visibly. It just sounds to me like they need Sailfish on there (different ui, with android capabilities) :)

Presently I am using Moto G, I selected just by understanding the pathetic situation of the company. I m like that.. I m not after high end phones. But i am after those phones which successfully serves the purpos . A mobile should serve the purpose of a mobile not a laptop or computer. It was during the nokia's times, they made phones, which are real mobile phones. I miss the old Nokia company. I m very much happy after seeing the sailfish os.. It remained me the old nokia phones.. I want u to build a universal os for every smartfones out here. Or for the popular phones available here. Nowadays we see phones which serves the purposes of a computer than a mobile phone. At last it become redundant to even make a call just because of low battery. So my expectation for a good phone

  1. Could make calls, video calls, internet calls
  2. Msging, im, whatsapp apps etc
  3. Camera with good capture quality, editing to an extend..
  4. Mails integrated
  5. Web browser good reading view wth support jpg and videos videos linked to youtube app or other special app to watch videos in low speed networks. Text justification.. Copying and pasting as in meego os.

  6. Galery, music app with equilizer. Full black mode. Video for all format.

  7. Games no need high end.. Just to burn some time or boredom.
  8. Alarm essential.. Plus your present all featurs in sailfish os 1.0.38.. Hardware..

Please support for my moto g. Snapdragon 400 1.2Ghz, 1gb ram.. Please dont take too much space in my harddisk.

I know your present os had most of the features i had told. It is just my concept. I think if u can deliver any os capable to run in any hardware.. Then it will be another revolution.

Thank you.

Varun V.

Sony Xperia Ray (1ghz MSM8255, 512mb RAM, 854x480 3.3" screen)

Nobody seems to have suggested a small (sub-4") phone yet. For my tastes the Jolla phone is a tiny bit too big (the N9 fits nicely in the hand, whereas the Jolla is a little awkward), but all new Android phones it seems are even bigger, sometimes to ridiculous degrees.

Any small Android phones are truly awful and usually seem to have laughable 320x240 resolution. The only semi-modern phones I can find that look half-decent and are under 4" are the Xperia Ray I've suggested and the Xperia U (1ghz STE U8500).
