From 1.0.4.20 release notes:
Unlocking the device now presents the last viewed app if unlocked within 10 seconds of locking the device
I think this worked the first time I tried it, but not anymore. It's just good old lock screen when I double tap or press the power button, even though I have locked with power button while in an app, and it's been only couple of seconds. Is this working for others?

If the screen turns off because of a timeout double tap will unlock to the last open app within 10 seconds. BUT if you turn the screen off manually (with power button) it will bring you back to the home screen.
So last viewed app only works when screen times out itself, not when the user turns it off manually. If you want this changed you will need to make a feature request.
The feature you're talking about – 30 second "grace time" after screen time out – was already in 1.0.3.8.
This one is new in 1.0.4.20, and I think "within 10 seconds of locking the device" clearly refers to you locking the device, not timing out... If it doesn't, the release notes are badly worded. :)
