A pretty strange thing happened. After downloading the update to Paarlampi (1.0.5.16), I had to connect my phone to a charger because I only had 5% battery left. After starting to charge, I noticed the gallery and settings apps were not loading anymore (crashing while loading) so I decided to restart before starting the update installation, to avoid possible problems. After shutting down (by using the power button) and restarting, I first updated MeeCast and then the Tweets through the events screen. After this, a large popup appeared prompting me to update the Android runtime, having an OK button available. Accepting this update, I could see all android apps uploading, but when the process was finished, I noticed the full system update had been installed.

Is this the expected behavior? I was expecting to see the phone restart and the progress bar under the sailfish logo, but most of all, I was expecting for the update to start only after I had selected the 'Install update' option.

Either way, I am happy the update was successful and everything seems to work fine, but I thought this behaviour might be a possible issue.

Has anyone else had a similar situation?

I had something kind of similar with the 1.0.4.20 Update. After starting the update process the progress bar went to about 50% and then the next time I looked my Jolla was shut down. It didn't reboot itself like it should have and according to the time the first 50% of the update took, it shouldn't have finished in the short time I wasnt looking. But as I booted it up the Update was Installed and I had no issus..

@Drekkarian This is not expected behaviour.

I tried to reproduce this 3 times with the same steps (except Gallery & Settings were not crashing) and I was not able to do so. After the reboot the system was still running 1.0.4.20.

Thank you for your reply. I can imagine it probably was a very specific set of circumstances. Please let me know if there is any way I could provide more details to help you investigate this, if needed. However, considering the fact that the update works fine and I haven't encountered any issues, I would clasify this problem as non-critical and of low priority. I will close this issue after a period of inactivity. Thanks again.

I think you have not read the Release Notes properly. Specially "Pre-requisites" https://together.jolla.com/question/38508/release-notes-software-version-10516-paarlampi/

I have read the release notes and pre-requisites. I'm not sure what you are trying to say. I had the charger connected as requested. That part worked as expected.

The strange part is that I never chose to install the system update after fully downloading it.

If your Jolla was connected with Charger then how come battery remaining 5%? I think you downloaded the update without the charger connected. Well I download the update I connect the charger with Jolla

No issues at all here with 53% of battery power remaining and NO charger attached. I don't think the charger is required to do the update. It's just a recommendation safety wise. What I think is absolutely not recommended is to start the update with only 5% battery power left.

The charger is only required when installing the update because that's when things can go wrong if the phone shuts down forcefully. Downloading the update has no special requirements as it can be interrupted as many times as needed, without any risk.

@Anna: Of course having over 50% battery is not a problem for starting the update. With 5% left you are not even allowed to start it. As I explained, I had 5% left after I finished downloading the update.

I've got you right. I just wanted to point out that I installed the update without the charger. So it's not required, but recommended if you want to be on the safe side. ;) On the other hand I wouldn't dare doing an update with less than 50% battery left. Nokia (Symbian, Meego) for example always recommended to fully charge the phone before starting a system update. But even there no charger was required.
