Likes vs rating in Jolla store

I wonder what the 'Like' really means in the Jolla Store? I mean if you see 1-5 stars then you can immediately tell how users have liked this app if you compare with the number of ratings. Like means just that the app has been liked for whatever reason. Usually it feels like an app is liked just to tell the developer "good job" even if the app itself is more of a joke. The likes cannot be compared with other apps either because it depends on when the app was released and what other apps was available at that time.

My point is that how does the user tell if the app has got good or bad rating if the app has got let's say 61 likes? The Andoid support has got over 1200 likes. Is the Android support actually being liked that much more.

Well maybe it's just me that find this 'Like' less useful and maybe it is not meant to provide a rating by any means.

Likes per downloads could be more informative than number of likes alone.

The problem with ratings is that they're only useful for small, unknown applications. As soon as they're popular, they only get the lowest or highest rating possible. You can see this for example on Google's Android market, where people vote 5 stars if they like the app, even if they note some shortcomings, or they rate 1 star if they don't like it.

Maybe a dislike button could be used?

The Google Play Store also reveals other flaws in the rating system such as "Costs money! (1 star)", "Can't install (1 star)", "Pls add [totally unimportant feature], then I'll give 5 stars (1 star)".

A dislike button also has problems, because it could be abused.

That's why the store has like and the option to revoke your like. But I agree that the way it is now, the count of likings rather shows the age of an app, than its quality.

Another, though somewhat similar flaw.
