edited: forming question to be a question, moving earlier content as an answer. Topic tuning. (earlier topic: add connecting switches to lock screen pulley menu. comments below refer to having switches in the pulley menu.)

How could we have the setting quick switches available easier?

Edit: I am really hoping for this to arrive in the next update!

For me to many options makes the pulley menu unusable. I would prefer actions on the minimized settings "widget". I'm missing a easy way to disable GPS (like WLAN, BT, ...)

I do not think the menu is unusable with my suggestion. GPS can also insert. is there a way that I send you my picture and you do posting? because my english is not so good. Its difficult to describe this... greetz

how would you toggle a button? Idea: its on top, so you grab the pulley menu all the way down until its locked and then can you can toggle the buttons easily

@prometoys (You can add GPS/Location to the Settings "front page": Settings → System settings → Connectivity: Location → long-press "Location": choose "Add to favourites".
It's possible to make shortcuts for lots of the Settings items. :-) )

Add quick menu options/toggles in the "notification center" (events screen)

A more suitable option would be to add those quick menu options/toggles in the "notification center" (events screen). because you can access to this screen from any app swiping from the bottom.

Yep, this is the most suitable way for Sailfish UI I think.

And it's better to place these toggles at the bottom of the "notification center" because they will be conviniently in the reach of thumb finger as soon as you open "notification center".

Agree very much! It think one row of icons in the bottom would be enough, so there would still be plenty of room for notifications. This row could be scrollable horizontally to fit in more toggles.

Strongly agree with it.

Yes, that'd be perfect.

Also I want GPS on/off in the quick menu options.

Tim Drub ( 2014-03-21 14:40:29 +0300 )edit

@ssahla I would prefer to have two rows if necessary. There would be plenty of room too. 5 icons per row is better than 4. Agree that would be better to have them at the bottom.

Couldn't these kind of features be accessible from the ambiance switching page ? Or, another try, have the full ambiance change on the left side of the lock screen, and the network settings quick access on the right side ?

I support your first suggestion:
Let the user choose up to four toggles (i.e. one row) from Settings, and have them available up top in the Ambience switcher.

  1. No special setting needed for left/right swiper.

  2. No need to remove the "Ambience switcher available from both Lock and Home screen" thingie.

  3. Won't take up extra space in the Events screen (swipe up from bottom).

  4. Will be in line with what I hope is an upcoming extension of the Ambiences functionality.

(Hm. I must have been tired when I wrote that, as you actually began your answer with that suggestion. I've edited this comment to reflect that part.)

phle ( 2014-01-20 11:55:12 +0300 )edit

Yes, why have two Ambiance switching pages, when you can use the space for more important things. There was a question about global search here.

Ambience could be moved entirely to the settings, as for me. Why not to make those screens configurable?

marmistrz ( 2014-01-22 13:36:20 +0300 )edit

Yes. Near of all people need quick setting often then change Ambience. I am using patchmanager with quick control center on right side instead of Ambience and I am satisfied. :)

feature request: allow by option Parameter directly available anytime from events view swipe up from bottom (pull) allow clickable icon on home screen time, bluetooth, timer, connectivity like does very well Symbian S60 without slide menu.

Hi all, i think having ambiences on both sides is useless, maybe could be useful to have settings to one side and ambience to the other. At the moment we have ambiences on both sides in the lock screen and in the home screen too. The lock screen is almost useless because once you unlocked the phone you won't go there unless you wanna lock your device. There are a lot of point where we can find free space to use, i believe the pulley menu would become too long and hard to use if it was full of options. Byee

My idea is: replicate what Fremantle (and Harmattan to some extent) does marvelously - a status menu. With current design it could be a widget on a lockscreen, an option in the pulley menu, etc. There you could quickly change 2G/3G, connect to wlan/mobile internet, change brightness & etc.

Problem is: SailfoshOS have not top status bar. :)

Kaacz ( 2014-06-13 01:10:18 +0300 )edit

so you can lauch the menu somewhere else. It's all about the content here, not the exact way it's realized

It would be good to swich wifi, BT, GPS,... directly in the pully menu at the lock screen.

for example

--> if you can not see image Reload this Page <--

Rough mockups:

I would also see the switches better at top (like @prometoys commented earlier)

wood ( 2013-12-30 22:55:45 +0300 )edit

Having them on top would be hard to reach an doesn't allow use as pulley for these options :( Best idea so far is putting it in message center I think...

ramoth ( 2014-01-18 11:16:03 +0300 )edit

What about instead of pullie using pushie on notification area? Not used so far, so can be easily added and wouldn't clutter anything. I would go for just toggles of favorites as text (aka classic menu, not images as on mockup)

miska ( 2014-01-18 14:38:35 +0300 )edit

Pushy only works where no swipe up is used, at least I think so. Pushing up in the lock screen brings you to home screen... so the motion is in deed used. In apps the pushy only appears at the very bottom, where swipe up has no other function anymore.

Another type of solution: The quick settings menu could be a customizable bar, which location could be set by user to either:

  • current location (settings first screen top)
  • lock screen top
  • lock screen pulley menu top
  • notification screen top
  • home screen top/bottom

This bar could also include a pull left/right gesture to go through the selected setting switches in it

This would be perfect. Everyone could have it on their own way. No compromises :) Probably a nightmare to implement though.

I like the option to put the connecting switches to the lock screen pulley menu.

Just a little improvement: You could make it only visible, when you perform a fast swipe down (or pull it all the way down) to lock it.

This way you wouldn't have the problem, that the pull down menu gets to cluttered, but you can still access the connection switches quite fast.

All way NOT. If I must put app to background, the i must switch to lockscreen and use pulley menu - simply this is NOT "quick controll". Simply NOT. :)

When the source code is available, I'll try to add (customizable?) cover actions: Left --> toggle WLAN on/off, Right --> toggle mobile data on/off. BTW, when will the sources be available?

Edit: As suggested here

We don't have a sufficient number of directions. And "quick control" need to be accessible from anywhere. Without need go to special screen. After that this is not "quick control". Are you understand to this term? :)
