I tried to pair Jolla with my Saab 9-3 (MY07) bluetooth car kit and car appeared as a headset. I changed type to car kit and tried to access the phone book but the car said "phone book empty". If I dialed from the phone, then the car showed the number but not the name and after that the recent calls list in the car kit was still empty. Audio worked fine. In the phone settings under this connection is "Supported profiles: HFP". Does this mean that my Saab is too old to support PBAP or is this phone software problem?

Supported profiles showing on your phone have nothing to do with what your carkit can utilize - it shows what protocols your phone can invoke on the car. Since there is no PBAP profile in the list it means that your phone cannot access your car kit's phonebook (if it even exists) not the vice versa. When it comes to the contact list, you might want to look for an 'update' function somewhere on your carkit.

Are those contacts Google/Exchange-contacts and not local contacts? As if your car uses SyncML to sync the contacts there is a "bug" which causes Google/Exchange-contacts not to be synced through SyncML with 1.0.7.16-release.

See commitfrom the github.com. That's included in 0.8.13 but the version in the 1.0.7.16 is still 0.8.12.

However if this is the case it should get fixed in the next release.

Thanks, this explains a lot as all my contacts are Google contacts and not local.

Not being a super techy, once the code for 0.8.13 is downloaded what do I do to get it installed on the phone? Do I need developer mode etc.? Some simple instructions would be a great help. Thanks.

@bmwebb You will not have to do anything but upgrade to the next update when it comes available (assuming it will be included in the next update). :)

Couldn't find this in [Release notes] Software version 1.0.8.19, Tahkalampi. I guess it isn't there? Any hints how to copy google contacts as local to use phonebook in a car?

@shertell Yes, it is included in 1.0.8.19.

Yes!, It does work now. You just have to start by removing old pairings from car and Jolla both. After that OK. VW Jetta 2011.

The HFP profile is for audio only and it is supported by Jolla:

https://jolla.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/201440697-What-Bluetooth-profiles-does-SailfishOS-support-

For phone book access you need PBAP. If this is not supported by your SAAB 9-3 then indeed your car resp. radio is too old ;)

Replacing radio?

If under connetion is "Supported profiles: HFP" then does it mean that the other device doesn't support other protocols at the moment or does it mean that this is the only connection Jolla supports at the moment?

As mentioned above... Jolla is supporting a lot of profiles... it is an issue with your car kit.

i see SPP, MAP, HFP, etc. but I don't see PBAP - even with the latest update. I know my car supports PBAP because I had it work my N900 and it worked fine. my car cannot sync contacts. oh and btw, I do see MAP profile support but my car cannot read messages on the phone (works fine with my N900).

PBAP definitely was enabled with latest update 1.0.7.16 and it works perfectly with my car ;)

@incognito what you are saying, that when you look at the BT connection on your Jolla and it lists a bunch of profiles under the device settings then these are the ones that the Jolla can implement NOT the ones that are supported by the Car Kit?

These are the profiles that are displayed on my Jolla when you interrogate the BT Device settings: SPP, OPP, FTP, SYNC, HSP, A2DP, AVRCP, PAN, HFP and DID.

Where has PBAP gone if this is for the Jolla, as this was supposed to be in the 1.0.7.16 release???

This is really crazy if some are having issues and others are not.

It is not the car kit as I have PB support for N8, Galaxy S2 & S3 and HTC One XL.
