The old problem of mobile data semi permanently disabling itself, which I hadn't had or heard reported for ages is back with a vengeance since the update.

Had to reboot it a dozen times at least so far.

Worse still, it now appears to be completely stuck, and rebooting / flight mode and waiting does nothing. It just remains disabled permanently. To compound this, it only now accepts existing (remembered) wifi networks that were on the phone prior to the latest problem. New ones can't be connected to / don't go to password prompt.

As I left for a holiday today, I now have a brick with me ... no mobile data and no familar networks.

Don't suppose someone has a magical fix, or do I have to wait until August / September for the next update?

EDIT - 03/07/14: After all the updates and 'answer' below, I finally got the conman network 'hotfix' and updated to it, as it seemed to be my last hope. Predictably, it changed absolutely nothing whatsoever, aside from removing the option to enable or disable mobile data entirely (it didn't work anyway). As the thread for the hotfix seemed to suggest, the biggest problems with connectivity are just as bad if not worse with the 'fix'. Unless there's a very prompt fix from Jolla (seems extremely unlikely), that's the end for me and Jolla. I'll revert to my N9 when I get home, then move to Ubuntu Phone when it's released. Sad to say, but I don't think I'll be coming back for a long, long time (if Jolla is still around) .. the rate of progress is glacial, and often 'fixes' seem like regression.

Good luck to all, hope you have a better experience than I did.

EDIT2 To my amazement, the July Sailfish update fixed it. Which is just as well, because my N9 appears to have died in the ~6 months I haven't been using it.

Did you try the hotfix ?

Thanks, but even if the new network stack worked, I'd have no way of installing it until I got home in 2 weeks as I can't use mobile data and have no 'familiar' wifi here.

Also, judging by many of the comments in the thread, the new network stack causes even more problems than it solves.

I still can't fathom how Jolla can be satisfied with calling what we have at the moment full release (rather than early beta).

P.S. Someone else I know who has a Jolla suggested I select network manually, as supposedly it sometimes fixes these issues. Can't do that, as I've never been able to select a network manually ... whether 'home' network in native UK, 'preferred' network abroad, or anything else. just says "oops, there has been a network problem" ... of course as soon as I switch back to automatic, it connects to the very same network.

Connectivity is so utterly scewed in Sailfish .. whilst this is a massive problem for me, as I was foolish enough to rely on the Jolla for a 2+ week holiday, it's a good lesson - the Jolla is an expensive play thing / developers tool, not a phone or communications device that can be remotely relied upon.

Have you tried "prefer 3 G" + Data roaming "always allow" ? (+ reboot + wait ) That helped me on troublesome network. But keep in mind that Data roaming might be expensive over time if you are abroad on your holiday ..

No, tried all those tricks ... and the latest episode of the now permanently disabled mobile data / disfunctional wifi began on the afternoon before I left, so it's not a problem confined to unfamiliar networks (mobile or wifi) ... I naively assumed I just hadn't rebooted / fiddled enough or that there was a workaround, as it had already happened so many times since the latest update, so didn't bother taking another phone.

my phone is just simply useless as it reboots 20 to 25 times per day without, apparently, any reason. To me it looks like a network problem as it may reboot when I use an elevator or when there are many networks (WIFI / 3G) and it doesn't know what to do.

I swichted to my old Palm/HP Pre with webos, and boy do I missed it ;)

But I love my Jolla and leaving it home is not what I want.

Thanks

Does it reboot as well when flight mode is enabled?

I haven't try. but I'll try tomorrow. In a very stable network environment (like home) it doesn't reboot at all, But when I'm moving (inside/outside) and at work with many networks it is totally useless.

and if you did not check if your accu connection to the pins already, check it, was the cause for my multiple reboots a day.

ok I will. only 1 reboot to record today. Will check this accu connection.

you can fix it with a little folded piece of paper to get a better connection

I'll add this as an answer as there's even more weird behaviour (still no solution), but it does provide some insight into what IS working and ISN'T, and may help isolate causes / promote fixes.

Discovered that Mobile Data ISN'T completely disabled (the 2/3G connection icon isn't telling a lie). Randomly tried sending an MMS message, to see if it'd jog something into working ... it didn't. But then I remembered I had data roaming set to Always Ask (from when I was last trying to mix and match settings to make it work), and Sailfish tends to never ever ask if you ask it to ask, in my experience. So I set it to Always Allow, and to my amazement the MMS sent. This didn't change any of the other errant behaviour, and no other app (first party or third party) could use mobile data still, and option was still greyed out. But the problem clearly isn't global, and it's not the connection itself per se and certainly not the hardware.

Other update is that after trying 20+ wifi networks, I finally found one (two actually) that would allow me to enter the password and to connect. However, again, connectivity / networking was completely screwed. Only Internet Browser, Jolla Store and Maps (downloading map data) could use and function on the connection ... on the other hand, any third party apps couldn't use it, or freaked out constantly trying to log in or utilise the connection, but never succeeding. So again, this seems to be a core Sailfish problem, and not one that is 'global' for all Apps or Services.

Next step, as I finally had wifi that 'worked', at least for Internet Browser and Jolla Store was to opt in to the 'conman' network fix. I did so, but a day later (and several subsequent opt in requests) and still no prompt to update to the new network stack / fix in the Jolla Store. I know the Jolla Store is working properly, as I've received prompts to update apps, and have updated them. So the one thing that could possibly save me from this shit show (conman fix) doesn't want to send me an update prompt.

Smooth sailing, as always.

P.S. Can only log in via Account Revovery method on Jolla Together, as my ID / password don't work and result in account not found.
