Jolla permanently rebooting

Since the new update (1.0.8.19) my Jolla reboots permanently if I use an Android application. i have to remove the battery for stopping the permanent reboot.

is this a known issue? how can i fix that? thank you.

I have noticed the same. Only fix is to remove the battery.

"Me too". The reboot seems to happen when the device registers on the (4G) network; it doesn't reboot if I don't give it a SIM PIN. If I then later "enable SIM", it will reboot after it gets on the network.

Permanent reboots which can only be stopped by removing battery sound very familiar. I had the same problem and it sounds like this: https://together.jolla.com/question/7144/jolla-randomly-shuts-down-10819/ So I wonder if the new Android cover view somehow causes a voltage drop since the Jolla battery isn't close enough to the battery contacts. The solution of the other random reboots problem was to push the battery closer to the connector - so please try the same and check if that helps:

  1. Take a piece of paper (or somekind of tape like isolation tape), fold it if necessary so that it becomes at least 0.5-1 millimeters thick. I

  2. Insert/stick the folded paper/tape between the bottom part of the battery and the phone body. Make sure it presses the battery tightly upwards against the battery contacts.

Please test that and report if it solves the problem (this way we can confirm if it is a HW issue).

In my case, this was definitely related to getting on the cellular network. No reboot if I didn't enter a PIN, reboot after giving it later & getting service from cell (Sonera 4G LTE). Moreover, related to the question you linked to, my battery is well above 50% charge; I have never seen this before the most recent SW update; and although I am not an electronics engineer, "cover view causing a voltage drop" sounds like a rather far-fetched hypothesis. So I'm willing to bet this is a separate issue.

I meant that maybe the new Android cover view needs within a short time a lot of battery. The physical 'lose' battery connection causes a higher impedance and as a result a voltage drop which starts a reboot. But I'm no electronics engineer as well and also can't really imagine that the new cover view causes all that. Yes the pattern of the problem sounds familiar. Let's hope it is a separate issue which can be solved with a SW update.

For me this bug is fixed by disabling 4G, because it is not suported from my provider...

I'm facing the reboot problem myself BTW, it however occurs exclusively when the data connection is active without having a charger connected.

i had a similar rebooting problem,from the last upgrade, i've disabled g4 and i do not have rebooting issues since then.

Sorry to say that, but I'm following the paper sheet theory for some time now and it's a rather esoteric discussion.

There are only two reasons why this might work:

a) More firm pressure, i.e. larger contact area, on the battery contacts lowers resistance

b) Insulation by sheet reduces possible EMI issue

None of those can possibly be induced by software, except for the case where the application/service demands more power than the battery can supply at this moment.

This would lead to a voltage drop and subsequent hardware failure (see brown-out protection).

This suggests that the problem can actually be triggered by anything with high power requirements.

The radios might not really be under OS control, hence the frequent mentioning of shutdowns when SIM/mobile data is activated.

@SalmenSays comment about disabling 4G seems to have done the trick for me. Launching android apps don't reboot the phone anymore, getting several days of uptime again since switching 4G off.

After update I had some sudden reboots when battery level was under 50%. I folded the paper and now it has been two days and no reboots.

After disabling these two and reboot -> I have now restart free Jolla (for 2 days)

  • New feature"Add shortcuts to webpages in the app launcher area"
  • These shortcuts were first "programs" which always made Jolla my to restart. Later on Jolla is restarting from what ever app.

I try to continue trying to find which is causing problems to my Jolla by activating one of above at the time. Feel free to try if these would help on your Jolla restart problem.
