hello

before upgrading to 1.0.8.19 I tried to perfom a backup (on 1.0.7.16).

I got the message:

backup

oops, could not load

same occured after the upgrade. when executing jolla-settings in su mode, it is working.

check that the filesystems are not full or near full.

  • all filesystems are ok (space used internal 21%, external 57%)

  • the problem occurs while starting the backup UI, not during a backup

found an old Backup.tar, extracted it to $HOME/.vault. after that backup UI started and backup was possible again.

seems to be a bad idea to delete old backups in the backup UI (I tried this somewhen in the past, if I remember right)

Can still happen on more recent versions of SailfishOS. Simple solution is to delete the .vault folder (using for example "File Browser" app). Settings/Backup will open again and recreate the vault-folder.

So it's important to always delete unused backups via UI (long-press on backup file and delete) and not using a file browser.

congratulations to your necromancer badget ;-)
as stated in my own answer, deletion of the backups with backup-Gui was the beginning of the problem
in the meantime there are sailfish utilities (reset beckup storage - or similar in english) - really good for this as mentioned in several questions

Thanks, I didn't know the Clearing Backup option in SF Utlities would be an answer. Should have tried that :-) Didn't find an answer on TJC on how to fix the issue and thus added it as an answer (I didn't have an old .tar file available) for future visitors. Please change/edit whatever you want. I close the topic with the original answer (it previously was closed as "not relevant, outdated" which is not the case). Badges only apply for upvotes answers, not for closing questions - as far as I know :)
