Brightness is not remembered after screen comes back on [duplicate]

If your screen brightness is set to automatic, and your screen turns off, whatever level the screen was on is forgotten until a few seconds of recalibration has passed. This is particularly jarring when used in dim lighting as the screen will come back on at full brightness when waking up the device. It would be better if it retained the previous setting and only then readjust as needed.
