Currently I have apps like Viber and Yandex.Store installed on Jolla. They auto-start some processes in background after the phone boots, even if I don't launch the app itself (I can see it in htop). If I decide that this is a waste of memory and battery, is there any way to blacklist them so that these pieces of software will only launch when I explicitly start the app?

what if I want to disable only some of them?

I don't understand you, you need some app runs in background and some not ?

Schturman ( 2014-09-12 19:11:10 +0300 )

Yes, that. Also, if I disable Alien Dalvik at boot as shcutman suggested, all the background stuff will still launch when I start any Android app, right? (and will remain after exit) If so, there's no point.

Yes, exactly.

This is related to my question:

https://together.jolla.com/question/55827/missing-android-functionality-usually-found-in-android-settings-app/

The android settings app usually lets you see which services are running for a particular app, and force them to stop, though not disable them. That's where it should go though.

This problem has to be solved within Android itself. There are applications that help you gain control over auto-starts. One that worked for me on my HTC Android was:

http://appcrawlr.com/android/autostarts

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.elsdoerfer.android.autostarts&hl=en

There are others, you may have to search around to find one that you can install on the Jolla. (Let us know if you find a solution!)

I thought it was Jolla policy to prevent any app-specific Android services from running without the Android app being open? Does that not hold after boot?

@Vuubi For now, I've found a "temporary" solution to that: stopping and then restarting Android Support (after having used apps) will avoid auto-start of Android apps, at least until the user will start them manually again.

So.. Maybe a way to "patch" exists!
