Android app cannot send email

I’m trying to use the Gnucash android app and when it tries to export the data, it seems to attempt to send an email with an attachement. This fails with the message “Diese Aktion kann von keiner App ausgeführt werden.” (This action cannot be performed by any app).

It would be nice if it would not fail :-)

Email app on Sailfish side missing something essential? Or why the need of this?

Not sure I’m getting your question. There is email-based functionality integrated into the Gnucash app that doesn’t work.

Please try installing K9-Mail - it is a fairly good E-Mail-app for android.

@darvarj, I guess I have to do that. I’m having serious issues with the the sailfish client anyways.

It would seem that the android VM is not finding and Android app that's registered for sending emails. You'll probably need to install some android email-app to get around this, since I don't think the android<->sailfish integration will ever get this deep.

Probably true, although I don’t think sending mail and opening a web browser (which works) are so different. Both are based on android intents (compare this and that), so it ought to be possible.

I experienced the same. Some Android apps redirect me to native Email app - but I had 1 Android app as well which was trying to find an Android Email app. Installed K-9 mail solved that problem.

Hi! I have a question to those who use k9: can I get k9 to notify me about incoming mails? The account is connected with IMAP. I use open key chain with it and it works fine. But it doesn't tell me when a new mail comes in :-(

Unfortunately that doesn't work - only when your app is open or running in multitasking view. Eventually you get notifications when you run another Android app, but I'm not sure about this.

gnucash definitely works! I just installed gnucash and K9-mail (via f-droid) myself today, just to see if gnucash can send emails. K9-mail of course has to be configured with your email-account details - and it will send this export for you!

Great, thanks for testing. I guess I’ll have to switch to K9 or some other Android mail app, although its unfortunate that my Jolla phone slowly turns into a inferior Android OS this way.

I installed K9 and Gnucash indeed fires up K9 with an email – but without attachement. Can you reproduce that?

nomeata ( 2014-10-16 22:54:19 +0300 )edit

Yes, it happened so to me too when I tried the first export, but then I forgot to tick "export everything" ;-) Oh - and of course you need to create some kind of entry it gnucash - personally I don't know what to do in there, but I created some kind of expense and then exporting via email worked. I definitely was able to send an email WITH attachment and received it. But I didn't check the contents on the desktop-computer.

Ok, I’ll try harder :-)... Seems to work with OFX files, but not with QIF. Dunno why, might just be an issue with gnucash.
