[XperiaX] Email, apps won't connect to internet using public wifi
I've found that on many public wifi services that redirect you to a browser login page, email won't update ("problem with sync") and other apps cannot connect to the internet, even though the browser works fine.
How can I diagnose why the apps won't connect? (For example, how do I check if any ports are being blocked? How can I see whether connman thinks there is a connection?)
Are there any known issues with this?
Most importantly, are there any workarounds to get my email to update using public wifi? (Are there any settings I can play with changing? Have you had any luck with reconnection tricks like @r0kk3rz mentioned?)
Edit: XperiaX: (Public Hotspots) It seems the problem with not apering sign in browserpage is present again. I tried it on a trainstation (T-Mobile Germany Hotspot) and other providers. On the XperiaX with android it worked well. After flashing SailfishX (official) [2.1.3.5 Kymijoki] it is not working. Please check that again! and reopen this question.
Are those WiFis actually public? What's the purpose of those login pages?

Richie Cotton ( 2014-10-11 17:59:53 +0200 )editOften such hotel wifis are severely limited even after a successful login. Only a few ports to which outbound connections are allowed to. If connections to e.g. IMAPS port are blocked, there is absolutely nothing Jolla can do about it.

the issue isnt blocked ports but connman thinking there is no internet connection, and many apps are set to not bother trying if connman reports no connection.
If after authenticating I drop the connection and reconnect, everything works fine, but only if the wifi resumes the session
r0kk3rz ( 2014-10-13 11:41:15 +0200 )edithad that problem too in greece with a hotels wifi
sometimes it helped to quickly disconnect and reconnect again. So i was still logged in and a popup appeared showing a working wlan connection
sometimes the system ui asked for account details, in this case i had no problems
