I use a WLAN access point TP-Link TL-WR841N with "broadcast SSID" disabled.

Setting up the WLAN connection between my jolla phone and this device works and I can use it flawless. But after rebooting my jolla phone, my jolla phone seems not to be able to connect to this WLAN again. Access data to this WLAN (SSID and password) is still stored under Settings -> System -> WLAN, but there is no connection.

Disabling and reenabling WLAN on my jolla phone did not solve the problem: My secured WLAN keeps disconnected.

I found out, that enabling SSID broadcast on my WLAN access point is a way to work around this problem. But it would be nice if "hidden SSIDs" would work flawless, too.

I found other people mentioning problems with hidden ssid in comments to other questions:

But since I could not find a separate question for this, I decided to open one.

I use version 1.0.8.21 (Tahkalampi) at the moment. And my jolla phone is the only WLAN device connected to the accedss point.

Workaround: Deleting and adding the WLAN connection again, brings back full WLAN functionality in such a case (Thanks to @Aashish and @sifartech). But you always have to enter SSID and WLAN key (or at least copy&paste it from a text file on your jolla phone). So this is kind of uncomfortable.

UPDATE: This problem still exists in 1.1.7.27 (Björnträsket). Not after every reboot but it has happened to me at least once a week recently. Unhiding the SSID temporarily works as a workaround.

Update, 23.01.2016: In the meantime, I have updated my jolla phone to version 2.0.0.10 (Saimaa). And this bug seems to be fixed by now. I don't know, whether it was fixed in the update to version 2.0.0.10 or a version before, since I did not test it against all SailfishOS updates.

I tried the following usecases:

  1. keep WLAN router running and rebooting my jolla phone => jolla reconnected WLAN flawlessly
  2. shutdown WLAN router, shutdown jolla phone, start WLAN router, start jolla phone => jolla reconnected WLAN flawlessly
  3. shutdown WLAN router, reboot jolla phone, start WLAN router => jolla reconnected WLAN flawlessly

So, I would say, we can close this bug report. Thanks to SailfishOS developers for fixing this! :)

did you try the 'iwconfig' workaround? I use it quiet often, because I've the same problem

@rudi: I plan todo, but I am a quite new jolla user and did have time to find a way to my phone's command line prompt.

Half-Offtopic: Can you recommend a terminal app? Or do you rather use SSH to install such scripts?

@ralooyar: you have a terminal after activating the developer mode, but (for me) it's easier to create scripts etc via PC - putty and ssh. To execute them on the phone, I use filetug/filetug-root from warehouse or shellex from jolla store

Same problem with my wifi. When I unhide SSID, Jolla is able to connect. I am now running 1.1.7.27 (Björnträsket).

That happens to me as well, but very rarely. I have found that deleting the WLAN and then adding it again sorts the issue.

Thanks for your reply, Aashish. According to your answer, I did some more tests: This "reconnect problem to hidden SSIDs" does not happen always. I'll watch it the next days.

Thats true, it does not happen always. Like I said, it happens to me rarely. But when it did, I just deleted the ssid and added it again.

workaround: after checking iwconfig and iwlist, I use a script (executed as root) containing:

iwconfig wlan0 essid mynetworkname

(wait a few secconds after that)

I came here to post about this issue too.

Bug:
If WiFi is turned off, saved hidden WiFi networks shows ZERO signal strength (in the wifi status icon) and doesn't connect at all (automatically or manually) when WiFi is enabled again.

Workaround:
Deleting and adding the wifi network again shows the correct signal strength and it seems to work fine.

(Sailfish OS v1.0.8.21, Tahkalampi)
