I hope Jolla realises how necessary a fix is, given the unfortunate issues with Mitakuulu and subsequent announcement that @coderus was dropping support until he finishes rewriting the application some time in the New Year. If users wish to use WhatsApp, as surely a majority or significant plurality do, they are now forced to use the Android app (WhatsApp or WhatsApp Plus).

I know there have been other threads about WhatsApp, and issues with contact visibility for Alien Dalvik, however I think some acknowledgement from Jolla of the necessity of an immediate fix for the latter now that Mitakuulu is gone, and the ramifications of one not materialising, is needed.

For me:

1.0.7 fixed this issue, as WhatsApp could see ALL my contacts (though connectivity barely worked at all, so was moot).

1.0.8 broke this as WhatsApp can only see SOME contacts.

1.1.0 completely broke this, as WhatsApp can no longer see ANY contacts.

If Update 10 doesn't fix this issue, I'll be forced to leave the Jolla a little before I wished to, and Sailfish entirely (as no Sailfish build with or without Android compatibility is available for my Sony Z3 yet).

I imagine others will be left with a similar decision ... however much we may dislike WhatsApp or Facebook, the former has become a personal and professional necessity for so many people. No doubt, in time, its necessity will wane like it did with FB, and viable competitors will emerge. However, as of right now, no WhatsApp really isn't an option for a lot of people.

If not fixed quickly, this could see an exodus from the Jolla, and until the new native WhatsApp client is finished, I suspect this pretty much kills the attractiveness of Sailfish ports to Android phones, as we still have no idea if Jolla will give the option of purchasing the ACL in the Jolla store when paid app support is finally added.

I have no issues with whatsapp finding contacts. after installation simply reboot the jolla and contacts are loaded in the android whatsapp.. it may take some time.. think android notifications and connectivity issues are way more serious

Please rewrite your post so it's an actual bug report (about not seeing your contacts in Android applications) or feature request instead of a rant.

There are few solutions how to see contact in WhatsApp. Some works good, some not. IMHO, it depends on SailOS version and others things.

But I still missing the LED notification !!! Does anyone have a solution (or tmp workaround) to have LED working with WhatsApp?

I have some problems with Jolla -> Android contacts.

What i did was a backup of the contacts (settings -> backup)
Then i delete all the contacts (settings -> apps -> people -> delete all contacts)
For the import of the contacts i had a few problems so what i did was import the vcf file located at /home/nemo/.vault/People/data (all.vcf) into my thunderbird and next i export them as a single file (all_thunderbird.vcf) using MoreFunctionsForAddressBook extension. This new file, all_thunderbird.vcf, was the one which i import without any problems.
Then the Android was able to see the Jolla contacts

The 1.1.0 device had all contacts freshly imported from my old Jolla ... and WhatsApp sees NO contacts. I think it's likely there are a number of problems here ...

Done, including removing battery etc. Nothing in 1.1.0 ... in 1.0.8, however many reboots, it still only sees a small subset of contacts.

I have doubts about this .. also, I should perhaps add that all contacts on 1.1.0 were imported directly (via Bluetooth synch) from another (1.0.8) Jolla. Also, are you really trying to say that 1.0.8 can see all contacts for everyone? This is patently not the case.

In Whatsapp (Android) go to Settings -> Contacts -> there click the checkbox "Show all Contacts"

Already done. Does not work on either 1.0.8 or 1.1.0

Oh, and all hidden contacts are missing on 1.0.8, regardless of the setting selected .. but hidden contacts are a very small proportion of those missing.

i had the same problem for a time, after a few days it worked... maybe try rebooting and try again?
