Input problems which make me frustrated
Hi,
After using the devices for a few months, I consider the problems below as bugs and therefore they should be somehow corrected. Most of these "bugs" might have one solution to all of these issues.
1) When composing any text it is very hard to put the typing cursor in front of the text - usually the cursor gets few letters from the start. When composing email there an extreme risk of tapping on the "back one level" dots which are exactly at the start of the input box, especially when the device is in horizontal position.
2) It is very hard to select the end of line when composing an SMS/Message in the Messaging application when the last word ends very close to the "Send" button. Tapping there causes the message to be sent.
3) When long tapping most of the input fields, starts text selection now which automatically copies the text to clipboard. This is nice, but not very useful when you want just to change the cursor position.
4) The zoom-in cursor location feature does not activate as easily and activates the gestures instead in case the finger is not exactly at one or another spot which makes it very hard to put the cursor where needed. Also this is not working in all applications as it was suggested already before.
5) When there is a lot of text and zoom-in is active, eg. you are looking where to place the cursor the whole text does not scroll when the cursor gets under the on screen keyboard.
The solution: Make N9 style input, where long tap on the input field would pop a magnification glass or the zoom-in feature which shows the position of the input cursor and allows to move it anywhere in the input field without activating the normal gestures or buttons around the field, like going back one level (dots in upper left corner), tap on "send" accidentally in messaging screen, etc. Also this feature would not start selecting text because of the long tap, make text selection by taping and immediately moving finger while touch is not broken. Also when zoom-in is used, the cursor should not be under the finger ever or under any other UI elements.
Very nice video explaining my expectation from the phone is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6fRWsmyG2I
So basically I am writing this to tell you that there are a lot to improve here and that this is a critical part of the device.
