Hello,

From where will be the jolla tablet shipped? I have to pay (extra) VAT or duty, if I live in EU?

Thank you,

I have seen this question asked in different channels, but haven't seen an answer yet. Would love to see an official statement.

Astonishing that this question is still being ignored (?) - guess in this case no answer means unconventient answer means "will not be shipped from Finland". I am okay with that, but a bit disappointed to see the intransparency creep. (extended the question title, so that it is easier to find when searching for "ship")

I think it means that they haven't decided yet and they want to keep it open to the closer to actual shipping time frame.

Am also interested in this, maybe someone with more knowledge can explain us all costs.

Tablet will be shipped from Asia. On Indiegogo you ca see Hong Kong as location and your payment is received by Jolla Asia Limited.

I think this might be only because of finnish laws on money collection. If you don't give anything in return (aka. donors who only donate to support) it is counted as collecting money (you need permissions for this) and not selling products (they would need to prevent any non-purchase donations). By taking the money through their Hong Kong office, they can get around this. Actual devices might still be sent from Finland, but you never know for sure before Jolla gives us more information.

Yup, sadly crowfunding is blocked by Finnish laws in many ways, some past cases here: http://www.arcticstartup.com/2012/10/23/legal-challenges-crowdfunding-finland

They mention in indiegogo that you have to pay VAT yourself. Also it's sold in dollars so it suggests that it might come outside of Eu. In Eu you can sell Vat free adding the Vat for customers. Sounds sleazy and with some standards it is...

In Holland they add another 20 euro for postal services for collecting the VAT. (Legalised theft, I know.) I prefer to get it shipped from Finland, but I guess there is no choice here.

I would guess the reason for $ is that most if not all of this cash will go straight to Intel (their SoC provider), thereby making Indiegogo a more cost-effective option, since Jolla won't lose money through € > $ conversion fees when paying Intel (who will almost certainly mandate that they are paid in $), as they will be able to ask Indiegogo to pay the money to Intel, or pay it into their own $-based account.
