A simple way to transfer files via Bluetooth from a Mac to jolla and from jolla to a Mac is absolutely needed, especially regarding the jolla to a Mac part! I can do that with my N9, so why not with jolla?

Haven't tried from Jolla 2 Mac, but connection works fine from my Mac to my Jolla.

From a Mac to jolla there are no issues, all works fine, but from jolla to a Mac it's currently impossible to transfer files.

Why limit only to OSX? Check this.

Yes, of course I agree. I'm a Mac user, so OS X came to my mind because I don't use windows or Linux.

@Gabir have you set up bluetooth file sharing on your mac? I've had no problems sending files either way.

Gabir gave the right answer here, thanks! I just enabled bluetooth sharing on my mac and with that the Jolla can send files (I tried with a picture) to the Mac. My Mac is in german but you should be able to find it: System Preferences/Setting - Sharing - Bluetooth. Receiving Object: Accept and save Other device access: always allow (they can read this mac folder)

If my karma was >10 I could simply upload the screenshot here...

Not on Mac OS X. It is possible to transfer files from a Mac to jolla but not from jolla to a Mac.

honestly, I just did it with MB Air and Mavericks

Bale ( 2013-12-31 16:24:15 +0300 )edit

I have a MacBook Pro and mavericks, when I try to transfer a file from jolla to the Mac, jolla says "impossible to transfer" and the Mac says "the device hasn't the services" and nothing happens. If I try to transfer a file from the Mac to jolla all works well.

Gabir ( 2013-12-31 16:30:08 +0300 )edit

Seems to be not 100% reproducible then... I was able to transfer from Jolla to Mac. Perhaps the issue title could be rephrased to be more specific, the feature does seem to be supported, but has bugs :)

@Bale My original title and post mentioned specifically the Mac, not generally "a computer" but someone edited my question.

I think I have to assume that my issue regarding transferring files from jolla to Mac is a bug or something similar to a bug. Hope the Bluetooth support will improve in future updates.

I must add that, even though it's not possible to browse the device from the Mac, now I can send files from my jolla to my Mac, after I entered the Mac system BT preferences and changed them on my Mac. I didn't do that before, because with my N9 everything worked fine without changing preferences.

Gabir ( 2014-01-03 19:04:48 +0300 )edit

What changes did you do for the Mac BT preferences to allow sending files from jolla to mac?

wisdomlight ( 2014-01-11 01:20:28 +0300 )edit

@wisdomlight I don't have a Mac to check now, but I enabled Bluetooth on sharing preferences under system preferences and then chose "open and accept" from the menu. I'm translating from my italian Mac OS, but I hope this can help you.

Trying to Browse the Jolla via Bluetooth from MacOSX Mavericks results in “Device does not have the necessary services” message.

I can send pictures now, Karma sufficient now! :-) This is the german settings screen on the Mac where you would enable Bluetooth Sharing in the Sharing category. With that you can send via BT from Jolla to Mac.

Note that the transfer rates via BT are of course quite low and you will only get s.th. like 100KB/s, so it's not suitable for large files and mass transfer of data. But it works.
