Facebook problem

Hey guys, I downloaded the official Facebook app on the Jolla. It worked fine for a few days, then on messages, it made it mandatory to download the official 'messenger' app. So I did. And it said messages would still work through the facebook app, however they don't, when you click on someone, nothing happens, the only way to message them is through the messenger app

I thought I'd try using m.facebook.com on the browser, but that's no good either as any pictures posted are all massive and havent been shrunk to size of screen

Any tips?

You can chat in Facebook with Jolla's own messaging system (from the app you normally send SMS). Just add your Facebook credentials in settings -> account. So you don't need to use the Facebook's own messenger software.

m.facebook.com on browser using the latest (opt) update works very well, pictures are resized properly. BTW which is the official FB app for Jolla? Friends is a native one but not official and therefore has limitations due to API I suspect?

I think he installed the Android Facebook, which apparently doesn't integrate too well.

Facebook and Messenger android apps work fine for me (apart from both being sluggish and gobbling memory). Clicking a chat in the Facebook app jumps correctly to the right view in Messenger. I'm on update 9 but I'm fairly sure this worked correctly in 8 as well.

Make sure both apps are up to date via the Play Store, can be launched ok manually, reboot dalvik / your phone, offer a sacrifice to a higher power?

Look around here in together.jolla.com and you will find the answer quickly. Have you read the comment from oku: "If your comment doesn't solve a problem, you should continue posting your comments as comments, not as answers." ??

utkiek: I think I expressed myself badly, but what I meant is basically explained there: https://together.jolla.com/question/126/what-is-the-difference-between-answering-and-commenting-on-a-question/

The latest update is not entirely stable so it opt-in only: https://together.jolla.com/question/59874/release-notes-opt-in-upgrade-to-software-version-11038-uitukka/

However a newer update should be released soonish which won't be opt-in (i.e. you'll be able to upgrade normally).

If your comment doesn't solve a problem, you should continue posting your comments as comments, not as answers.

About your question: you probably would need the latest opt-in update to get the m.facebook.com working better. Unfortunately my experience is that the opt-in update is still _very_ unstable and I would advice you to wait for the stable update10.

In the mean time, you could also try some other browsers, like netcat for example.

do you know if the new update will allow you to copy text from pages on the browser, or be able to zoom in on browser?

JordanNOFX ( 2014-12-08 16:13:14 +0200 )edit

Zooming in browser works in general in update9, but it doesn't appear to work on m.facebook.com. I hope that is what you asked? Also not able to copy text, which is bad.

BTW brainfart in the last comment: webcat the browser, not netcat of course.
