Faster way to phone and contact
asked 2013-12-31 01:06:34 +0200
This post is a wiki. Anyone with karma >75 is welcome to improve it.
Currently:
- Wake up phone (double tick or ON button)
- Swipe from Lock screen to Home screen
- Tick Phone icon
- Pull down to 1st menu entry "Call contact" (translated from German)
- Tick letter
- Scrolling in long list down to the contact
- Tick contact.
- Tick phone number.
... Hopefully you never ticked the wrong item on this long way! For example, if during step 5 you ticked the wrong letter, one in front of the letter actually required, there is no quick way back!
Required improvements, e.g.:
- Waking up the phone by 4 ticks onto screen opens phone application directly.
A small keyboard appears automatically near the bottom of the screen allowing to enter the contacts (same function as the large keyboard appearing when pulling down to 1st menu entry). This keyboard may either disappear after a certain numbers of seconds without interactions or it may be configured that it does not appear for users not wanting this one.
After ticking the first letter, the keyboard shrinks but still all letters remain accessible in order to be able to enter the following letters of the name. Thereby the list of names is filtered according to the entries. A special button allows to return to the large keyboard to enter a new 1st letter.
- For each contact, all phone numbers are shown in the list (the shorter the list, the larger the font may become)
This way you had 3 steps instead of 8:
- Wake up phone (4x tick on screen)
- Tick letter(s)
- Tick phone number.
Not that I wouldn´t mind a bit faster way to phone, but the fastest way at this moment goes more like this:
- Wake up phone by double tapping
- Swipe up to Phone in Pulley menu
- Swipe up to Call contact
- Swipe up to Search
- Type the first letters of the contact
- Tick Contact (if only one phone number)
Tujutzki ( 2013-12-31 01:43:25 +0200 )edit4 tap is also too much for just call is need a very quick access ! Sailfish OS needs a smart dialer T9-style. this solution is better and quicker !
redge73 ( 2013-12-31 01:47:50 +0200 )editThe fastest way to call (your frequent contacts):
If your contact is not yet in call history then 3. Swipe to select Call contact. 4. Tap on contact among your favourite contacts (on top of view) or on recent (SMS) contacts below the favourites. [Majority of our phone calls go to a limited number of people - these contacts will soon appear in the recent communication list, right?]

Yes there is: You should tap on the wrong letter again (2nd time). This takes you back to the grid of initial letters. Now tap on the correct letter.
virmajor ( 2013-12-31 09:32:27 +0200 )editThanks for noting the solution for mistapping in step 5.
By the way: I am not claiming that the solution indicated for faster access is the best on universe. Any improvement warmly welcome.
