A small counter on the messages and mail app to display the total number of unread items is something quite fundamental.
It can be extended to all apps that require the unread count to be displayed for example WhatsApp.

...and to continue - an easy feature to reset the "Unread messages" counter in the "Updates" -view & mark all unread messages as read - would be very wellcome feature also...
