Amazon app store bug [answered]

I downloaded and installed amazon app store. I was able to purchase couple of non-free apps but now the store wont open right. All I got is black screen. Ive heard others having the same problem....is there already an easy solution for this?

I really wanna have one reliable android store and I feel amazon fullfills that.

We need to have Jolla's attention on this so that they fix amazon app store availability.

BTW: After reset Jolla store said I have android support installed although I hadn't installed it after the reset...some weird things going on....looks like the android side of the phone is not working right....

EDIT: Found solution, but it only works on 1.0.0.5 Kaajanlampi...we absolutely need Jolla to fix this.

I had that problem too.

I had to uninstall Amazon Store app, delete manually its data and then install it again.

It worked fine for me in 1.0.2.5 but when I updated an already installed app it started experiencing this bug. It appears the app store opens a black window on top of everything and the back button is useless.

I had this problem with Amazon app store when trying to update some of the Android apps I had installed via the store.
What seems to happen (in my situation, anyway) is that the store app is downloading the new version of the Android app and trying to install / update it, but it gets stuck doing that (that's when I got the black screen you mention).

The way I managed to fix it is by (via SSH to the phone):

  1. Going to
    /data/sdcard/Android/data/com.amazon.venezia/files/apks/
    and searching for the name of the Android app I was trying to update within the APK files present in that folder:
    grep -i app_name *.apk
    (in my case, it was AccuWeather, so I searched for something like "grep -i accuwea *.apk")
    This is because the actual names of the APK files is not revealing of the apps they represent.
  2. The result of the above search was two files, which, based on their timestamps, indicated the one which was newer (i.e. 102ef236-87b0-4ea5-935d-2319633cb009.apk in my example below):
    -rw-rw-r-- 1 10010 sdcard_rw 7630575 Jan 21 12:55 102ef236-87b0-4ea5-935d-2319633cb009.apk
    -rw-rw-r-- 1 10010 sdcard_rw 7637330 Dec 29 21:13 f3a9b8c2-bddb-45f1-ad1d-de9b90989748.apk
    This would indicate the newer version of the Android app that the Amazon store is trying to install (as part of the update process).
  3. Based on the above info, I went on and deleted the newer file (i.e. 102ef236-87b0-4ea5-935d-2319633cb009.apk for my situation) and reloaded the phone.
    The logic I was trying here is that, if I delete the file that Amazone app store was trying to install, it will quit doing that (and will, thus, allow me to use the app store normally).
    This logic was confirmed, as the app store is now back to normal (i.e. no more black screen).

When I try to delete the file through SSH, it tells me permission is denied. Did you have to do anything else? The Nemo account doesn't appear to have permissions. EDIT: devel-su allowed me to delete, but the interrupted download still refuses to finish. I fixed my issue my downloading another application, which seemed to have gotten the stuck one going.

This answer also works for me, and it does not require me to manually remove files: https://together.jolla.com/question/33351/problem-amazon-apps-in-constant-downloading-state/ the problem seems to be that, while Amazon upgrades an app, the existing installation of the app somehow gets in the way. If you remove the old version of the app from the Jolla icon view, and then reopen the Amazon store, the upgrade can go on, and the Amazon store will work normal again.

I'm having the same problem. I'm trying to download Minecraft Pocket Edition, so I clicked install and clicked out of the app to check something else, and when I clicked back, it was stuck on the downloading screen. It's been like that for nearly a month and I can use the app just fine, but it won't download Minecraft at all. I've tried deleting the newest apk file like this answer said, but I wasn't able to find a com.amazon.venezia folder, so I deleted it from com.amazon.mShop instead and it didn't do anything. Anyone have a fix for this or another way to find the right folder?

Well in my case uninstalling the app, removing all the data it left and installing once again did help. But yes it's not the most comfortable solution.

Jolla doesn't officially support Amazon App Store, but Yandex and I guess the bug can be more connected with Myriad Alien Dalvik software.

Yandex is the worst android app store I've seen anywhere. Thanks for the info. How did you "remove all the data it left"? Via terminal? Has it been working after 2nd installation?

If I remember correctly I got rid of these two folders (probably you don't need to reinstall app, but I've done it anyway when I encountered the problem):

/data/data/com.amazon.venezia

/data/sdcard/Android/data/amazon

I've had a similar problem - I've got Yandex and Amazon loaded - I did have others but I got into problems whereby one store said there was an update available but when I tried to install/update it the app stopped working. So I recommend only updating an app from the store you got it from.

I really don't know what happened, but I did update my phone to latest OS because I wanted to try native apps from the warehouse.

After that I installed amazon app store and various apps from there without any problem. So at least (for now) my problems w/ Amazon are now solved.

Have Yle Areena, Skype, Hi-Q mp3 recorder and J4T (multitracker) androids + various native apps: CuteSpotify, LLs Vplayer, flashlight...

Seems to be fixed with the Update of the Android Runtime which came with 1.0.5.16.

I had same Black Screen issue with Amazon app store. I figured out that the app was old and wasn't comfortable with my latest OS version. So I simply uninstalled it and reinstalled the latest version and got it fixed. That's it :)

I too initially faced the same issue till I found out that this is the solution. Also download GATE EY Answer key.This app may be outdated with the current OS. Check once again and get the new latest app.
