people and phone apps displaying black content if they are in top left corner - last used app. if app is moved just to second slot for running apps it does rerender window and thumb of app and displays scaled fullsize bacground and it is not so nice as other semitransparent windows like calendar email.... even pulley menu border is visible in coverpage..

EDIT: 1.1.2.15 still, it looks like coverpage gets new overlayer with black backgroud, after swipe ended, as there is nicely rendered coverpage while doing and not releasing slow swipe from side, then after releasing, thumbnail with white app icon message is replaced with black cover, with same icon, depends of animation speed, i can see that until i release finger there is no issue with bacgroud and coverpage content including icon, after releasing new, second fade-in effect is launched but only visible fade could be on icon and with no content (black), like method doesn not have target picture so it does fade-in to black (fade-in icon, black since start fading..) this second fade-in should not be there as other apps perform only one fade-in while start swiping from side

edit: 1.1.2.16 three jollas running in diference enviroment, two of them are untouched in devel mode with stock ambiences, feedback from users: annoying UI bug what should be fixed asp becouse it is daily and ugly != jolla

is there any note from devs? except that thay know about it...

It seems that this issue has been resolved in the latest update (U13). For now it's an early access, and put to freeze for some issues, but I think this question can be closed. If after the update rolls out to general public and the issue still persists, then feel free to open this again, but for now the bug has been corrected. Have had Jolla up and running several days without issues.

If I'm not completely off, I think you are referring to this issue. For some reason the Phone and Messages apps render the backgound differently. Other apps have indeed a semi transparent cover, but these apps don't and I believe this causes the black background issue.

all three jolla devices having this issue, all are clean of alien, only jolla esentials , two of them only stock ambiences, but regardles on time, after unknow number of return to home from messages or phone produce black screen coverpage background,

i wonder why this issue got only 4 votes, are other devices arround the world without this issue? it is something what makes UI (jolla) ugly and i feel it like critical bug even more than shifted caldav calendar after daylight saving :(

Althought this question is marked as answered, this bug still persists (at least for me). See this screenshot. But I can gladly say that now, only teh Phone App is buggy, the Messages App works as it should.

The problem has returned to both Phone App and Messages App. However I noticed that my GF's Stella Edition does not have this bug. And we are both running the latest OS - 1.1.2.16. I restarted my phone with a random different Ambience and the problem dissapeared. Even changing the ambience didn't bring the problem back. I will keep an eye on this and update if the situation will reproduce.

EDIT2 2015-03-01

After the phone had been on for a few hours (approx. 3h) the problem has returned. Now both Phone and Messages Apps have black cover while on the first slot. So no fix - yet.

ok, what about transparent background instead of scaled one

im running 1.1.2.15 and it is not sometimes but allways

That seems like a different issue/bug, so you should open a thread for that if there isn't one yet. And as always, pictures are very valuable when it comes to UI glitches. Sometimes it's hard to explain/understand what's the problem.

after 3 days Messages losts one of layer so there was empty window with no content (similar to issue with lost VKB or frozen UI in Message app - invisible layer stealing touch events over visible intems), and then phone app got black backgroud, reboot fixed that issue btw my jolla is shipped this year if there could be some tiny HW differencies between old jollas and newer one? @raketti mentioned Stella edition with no issue, could be just random ofcourse :)

@pan tau - I rebooted my phone (don't know how many times now after U11) and now with uptime of ~12 hours, the black covers have returned. After the reboot everything worked fine. So this is indeed a very peculiar bug. :D

EDIT: And again after reboot, the covers work as they should. I need to keep an eye on them at what point they change from normal to buggy.

EDIT-2: After 1 hour of uptime the results are in, Phone App has black background, Messages App works normally.

EDIT-3: After 1 hour of uptime both App covers, Messages and Phone, are back to black.

more than day without this issue and becouse i using it every moment, jolla is very busy, battery is for one day normaly, i dont use ipad since i adopted jolla so she does all the work and all issues what i have now are pretty peculiar and got feeling that we have to start randomly swipe and touch screen, even multiple touches, rotate...

becouse lost VKB happens almost allways when i forgot to lock screen and doing who knows what on screen lost vkb forcing me to reboot, so i can say there is no black background issue until i have to reboot for keyboard :p

edit: after 12HOURS exactly, from last reboot !

fix issue too, no reboot needed

i only tried now side swipe again and again, last swipe before bug appeared was not from outside of screen but little in screen touch then swipe, mostly i do swipe over edge of whole phone, but also 12hours...

edit: max time without issue depends on how many times is something done, perhaps that how many times it is sent to home, today i noticed backround issue for calc home, home - broken calc background,

Phone and Messages cover pages were fixed in 1.1.2.16

now i can say that jolla is queen of beauty 2015

@anandrkris do you have the problem with both Phone and Messages App, or just with either one of those? Because for me the issue with the Messages App has been solved but still persists in Phone App.
