Well the title sums it up: I tried to update my Jolla and it failed with the message "try again later". However that's not possible now - since neither the simcards gets recognized anymore, nor can the wifi be activated.

Anyone got an idea how this could be fixed at all??

edit: words edit2: I don't know if it changes anything, however it was unexpected for me at least: A wild guess was, that somehow the network interfaces are in DOWN state und unable to be set to UP state. However when inspecting the list I was really confused about the interfaces names, because there were 8 of them, all labeled with "rmnet<x>" with <x> being in range(0,7)</x></x>

Update 1.1.2.17? do you mean 1.1.2.16? I am running upgrade 1.1.2.16 for a week now without problems. I never had a problem with sim card, bear in mind I do not swap sim, and actually wlan with the latest version is a lot better than previous releases.

Yes, I meant that, however I forgot to add, that I tried to update, but it failed without further information. Upon reboot said problem was born.

Same thing happened to me too, please help!

Unfortunately, I've got the same thing:

  • connected charger (even though battery was almost full)

  • downloaded update

  • installed update

  • got "Sailfish OS couldn't be updated, try again later. Device will now reboot." (or however the wording was), and a button to press to reboot

  • after reboot, I did not get the input SIM PIN screen, and connecting to WLAN doesn't work:
"Network is not available. Please restart device." - but rebooting doesn't help
(I've got a perfectly fine wlan working just next to it)

I am one of The First One's, but I haven't opted-in for early updates.
I'm presently still on 1.1.1.27 Vaarainjärvi, memory usage is 6.3 GB out of 13.7 GB so space shouldn't be an issue, and I have no openrepos apps installed (or un-installed).
I haven't fiddled in the terminal either.

Should I wait for a solution (for how long?), or should I do an annoying (have refrained from doing one this far, and would prefer not having to be "forced" to try one now) factory reset?

I did a factory reset and managed to upgrade, as I needed a working phone for tomorrow. Problem is, I lost my calendar as it is not backed up by the Jolla backups. https://together.jolla.com/question/84516/add-calendar-to-jolla-backup/

I just found this answer in another thread and it worked for me too: https://together.jolla.com/question/84385/11216-sailfish-os-couldnt-be-updated-try-again-later/?answer=84541#post-id-84541

If you don't have experience with the terminal, here are the steps I did(assuming that developer mode is activated and hence you have the terminal app installed):

1. start the terminal app
2. enter: "devel-su"
3. enter: "pkcon get-updates" //yes this works without network connections
4. enter: "pkcon update connman"
5. enter: "pkcon update connman-qt5"(it will ask you if you want to install both, say yes
6. enter: "pkcon update connman-configs-sailfish"
7. enter: "pkcon update sbj-wlan"
8. enter: "pkcon update connectionmanager" // not sure if this was the exact name, just check it with the list you got on get-updates
9. reboot //now I did a reboot because I was too lazy and hoped this was enough to bring back wlan at least wifi. And wifi really worked again :Dsh"
4. enter: "pkcon update sbj-wlan"

So now I logged in via ssh from my computer, it should work nevertheless directly on the jolla too:
10. open terminal app again
11. enter: "devel-su"
12. enter: "pkcon update"

for me this worked, it automatically downloaded and installed all available updates. If this doesen't work for you, do what the linked answer suggest and install all of them manually("pkcon get-updates" and for each entry of this list: "pkcon install {entryOfTheList}"

pkcon update connectionmanager doesn't work -> it must be pkcon update connectionagent-qt5 I also got Wifi working again in this way.

Now I am trying to update again via terminal, hope it works this time.
