Virtual keyboard language change 2 finger enhancement [released]

The way to change languages is pretty cool as it is, but I think it could be even better if it allowed 2 finger selection.

So, at the moment you long press the space bar, then move your finger to the desired language and release.

In addition to the above, it would be nice if you could long press the space bar, and with another finger just tap whatever language you want, for when you are holding the phone with both hands.

That feature would go against the user interface logic of not having to hit buttons but to use the swipe gestures for tasks like that. So I don't really see a need for the suggested feature. On the other hand, there wouldn't be any harm done by implementing it.

lipe: indeed it needs some UX design thought, I just thought it would save me a bit of time to switch languages while writing an email. This use case is not for everybody though, you have to switch languages quite often for it to become useful.

I think (most)users normally switch between two input languages - native and English. So for me best way should be that when one has only 2 input languages selected in Settings long press will swap back/forth between those two.

Or there could be an ordered list of preferred languages and the long press would highlight the most preferred one (neglecting the currently selected one), and a release would select it if a drag/pull and release to another language is not made.

1.0.5.16 switches language when you tap with a second finger. Good enough for me! It isn't perfect if you have a lot of languages, but not sure how many people have more than 4. I'll reopen if folks think it should be thought through further.

I thought it was very cool the way N9 solved it, swiping the keyboard sideways to switch. That'll be a nice and fast way to switch between a couple of preferred languages.

tap with second finger doesn't work here (swiping still works). I'm on 1.0.5.16. Is there something I have to set up to make this work? (I tried looking in Settings, but didn't find anything)

spacenewt: that was to swap between Swype and native keyboard, not languages.

tingo: I didn't have to set anything up... I have 2 languages, and all I did was tap - mind you, it switches languages when you tap anywhere, it doesn't actually select the language that you tap.

@gabriel: It also switched between languages that you had for the regular keyboard.
