A Jolla Phone 2?

I'm not asking which ingredients you want ..there are enough threads for it. Of course things like spare batteries are a must..better hardware is automatically thanks to technical evolution.

But Jolla as the hardware seller...or the new Jolla hardware company that we never heard of since it was founded (or isn't it still?)

I personally would like to buy it. Screensize could even stay but I would like that the TOH stays just to have possibilities in comparison to other phone makers.

I think Jolla/ Jolla Hardware should always make one top class phone as reference design, similar to Google Nexus devices..just more unlike and therefore better ;-)

I would be customer again!

If "I would be customer again!" is the question (it is the question, is it?) my answer would be: 42.

Anything else? Ah, well, don't do drugs ...

unfortunately Jolla is so bankrupt they can not even offer spare batteries. And the Jolla Shop looks like soviet union: Empty shelves, everything on display is sold out. Batteries (akkumulators) are not even on display. Good old communismn..... but I like my Jolla anyways. Many design flaws, ok, but not that bad like the Ubuntu phone (which is really far away even from beta testing, IMHO).

So what is the question at all? If Jolla failed to make it? Sure. Now I have it I like it and use it up. No spare parts? Prone to become garbage. What is different from chinese way doing it??

42, I can not see anything that makes sense.

I bought my Jolla about 1 month ago. I have switched from Galaxy Note 2. Although worse specs its software is brilliant. I would definitly buy another jolla as soon as it is released. I really hope that Jolla company will be able to outlast in os battle, because their child, Sailfish, is the most wonderful operating mobile system in the world.

I would buy any new model that comes with SailfishOS pre-installed. (No "community-ports", that is.) It wouldn't make any difference if it's made by Jolla or any other company. There's just no alternative if you're looking for a GNU/Linux phone with a desktop-like distribution. I once thought Ubuntu would be an alternative to Sailfish - until I tried it. Although it's hard to believe for those who complain how many features Sailfish lacks in comparison to Android and iOS: Ubuntu is even worse. So: Yes, I buy a new phone from Jolla,

I would probably not buy another Sailfish OS operated phone. From my view the hardware of the Jolla phone is sufficient for my daily needs but the software is not.

I bought the phone as a communication device. Nowadays many of my friends use apps for communication. So if I want to reach them, I need one of those apps. And that is, where Sailfish fails. Android messaging apps -- Sailfish alternatives often do not exists -- fail due to this bug. And when they work you might first have to alter cryptic configuration files, to get notifications. The internal XMPP client does neither support OTR nor OMEMO which makes it unusuable in my eyes. (Currently on my phone it does not even connect to any XMPP server.)

And connectivity is a problem. There is no GUI for connecting to a EAP wifi, so you have to alter cryptic configuration files, again if you are in such a network.

The sad point about all this is that all these issues exist for quite some time. And there is no feedback from Jolla if there is any progress on these issues. There is just silence. I can live with a phone that sometimes has some bugs. But if I report one I would like to see that someone takes care of that. And this does not happen. No feedback at all.

So, unless the software improves on these issues I would not buy another Sailfish based phone. If you are happy with a phone where you can make calls, surf the web and send SMS and e-mail Jolla is mostly a fine phone. However if you are expecting to use modern messaging services it is not a good choice.

no. definitely not!!!!!!! the amount of heart ache I have had with this device - coming from such high hopes and good wishes for the Jolla folks to succeed.

but maybe yes??? when it works it's such a fab device and if it could be a bit more reliable and if there are more native apps and then absolutely yes

I will give them one more chance

If will on current hardware, will have good equipment, available spare parts, local support and service, then of course I will. Then Jolla phone can be salable not just for enthusiasts and other crazy geeks. ;-)

tiens... on se connait? => http://jollafr.org/sailfish-os-2-0-1-7-taalojarvi-disponible-en-early-access/
3 tablets is a lots of risks.
maybe with good luck you get one... or all or... in my case probably 0, but as igg investor i should gobble it.
At last it has help to contribute of the evolution of the os ecosystem..
but i'm curious on what is the surprise given from jolla...

cemoi71 ( 2016-01-27 18:00:21 +0300 )edit

yes, 'on se connait, electronquement parlant' jp1=jolla phone 1, not tablet, first phone was bought in early beggining but after being broken, I got a new one, and more recently last year a third phone.

regardingIGG campaign i took only 1 tablet and 64 bit upgrade.

The only issue I have with my current Jolla is that the camera is definitely lackluster.

Otherwise, I have been enjoying it more than any other phone I have ever used, and I've owned a few. The software really knocks other operating systems out of the park.

In particular, it's the first phone I have used that I usually consider picking up and actually using, instead of waiting until I can reach my laptop. The multitasking and web browser are such vast improvements over those of my previous phones that not only can I tolerate them, but I actively enjoy using them.

It doesn't have to be faster, or have a larger battery or anything like that (though that would likely help with the android apps I rely on, which tend to run the device rather hot and drain the battery much more than native applications), it only really needs a camera that doesn't leave me rather not taking new photos than using it. That would be enough to push me over the edge to buying a new Jolla device.

I almost totally agree. Some more editing tools in camera app are needed, and.. Maybe, a more lasting battery life could be nice!

Nah, the current TOH implementation isn't perfect and should be improved.
