Hi there, I've got my Jolla C yesterday and while setting it up with my apps I recognized that Whatsapp has no access to the sailfish contacts. I had this problem on Jolla 1 before and I tried all the workarounds I knew and some more I found. They had all no effect, does anyone got an idea? Thx a lot. Btw: real great device...pretty fast and stable so far.

Did you enable access to contacts in the Android Support preferences?

I noticed that contact names in Whatsapp are only shown if the "name" field in People is populated.

Yes, I tried. And it gets not even one contact (as like the contact support is turned off). The name should be filled in all Contacts.

no such problem. i have transferred all my contacts from samsung phone through .vcf file and downloaded wats app from native google store and its good to go.

I'm using a office365-exchange sync. maybe this can be the problem?

Hi, you need to go into the preferences of the whatapp app and activate the combobox within Contacts: Show all contacts, even the hiden ones!

Thx, tried this but it has no effect :(

Maybe a bug on 2.0.2.43?

I tried whole setup on my Jolla 1 again (2.0.1.11) and it is working perfect there.

wollatsch ( 2016-07-21 14:33:09 +0200 )edit

works for me with release 2.0.2.43. Maybe in addition activate the acceptance for execution of background services in the App Preferences within SFOS for Whatsapp!?

There is a bug in the syncing of priv contacts.db to non-priv (that what WA sees) contacts.db.

One thing you might try is to disable access in the android settings, reboot, wait 5 minutes, enable it again, reboot, start android-support (do not have it autostart during testing). Sometimes this fixes things. And yes what the others wrote, you need to enable hidden contacts in WA or you see no contacts at all.

Before only 1/4 or half of the contacts were not shown. I have tried to disable and enable the contact access, and also reset the app, now everything is lost and I don't see any contacts anymore. Any ideas on how to "sync" the database manually?

I tried you suggestion but now it is even worst. Before only 1/4 or maybe half of the contacts, especially new ones were not shown. After deactivating access and also clearing cache and data of WhatsApp, all contact are not shown any more :( Do you have any other ideas how to solve the problem. Can one sync the database somehow manually?

I have the same problem, but I'm not sure if I will reset my phone... Any more ideas?

caesium ( 2016-07-21 21:15:48 +0200 )edit

I did not found another. Would be quite interesting to get one, but resetting my device worked for me.

wollatsch ( 2016-07-22 00:08:41 +0200 )edit

Before I will reset my phone: Have you installed WhatsApp from aptoide-store or from WhatsApp-webseite? Which Version do you use? Have you enabled developer mode? Have you enabled "Access for andoid-apps"-option before or after installing WhatsApp? Have you any more ideas what can help?

caesium ( 2016-07-26 21:26:21 +0200 )edit

@caesium: install WhatsApp version 2.11.188 directly from whatsapp-website because aptoide-store willl install a beta-version. developer-mode is not necessary. Enable access for Android-apps" after installing WhatsApp. This should work!

After resetting my Jolla C some weeks ago it works like you told me. After the last WhatsApp-Update the contacts are gone again ;-(

Because I will not reset my phone after every whatsapp-update I will live with this big bug.
