LTE/4G data works on my friend's Intex Aquafish but the same SIM doesn't work on my Aquafish? (Journalctl: Unexpected call data 55)

Update :

The same is working in another Aqua Fish phone.

Update2:

I've reset the device. Still no luck :(. Tried in both sim slots.

  1. Bought a JIO 4G. Activation done. Data is working in Android non-volte 4G phone.
  2. Inserted in Intex Aqua Fish, network registers quickly. Selected Prefer 4G in Mobile networks. Has set Access Point as jionet.
  3. Tried connecting using the connection switch, it tries to connect and (a) says in the notification area "Problem with connection", and under (b) the Connection area "disabled"
  4. Tried restarting the phone, tried restarting using "Restart network connections" (which is available in Sailifsh Utilities that I installed). No luck.
  5. Tried updating to Sailifsh 4.0.4.14, but update is not yet pushed to the Aqua Fish devices. So I updated by enabling developer mode and using version --dup. Update was successful. But the connection issue persists.

On a sidenote: "I think" what was fixed/claimed in 4.0.14 update related to issues in JIO 4G -- are just apn settings for JIO 4G are available by default. So, since I used correct apn even before updating, there is no difference. And also, I actually did click restore to default in Data Access Point so that it populated the JIO related settings in the Data Access Point screen.

  1. To try even this much is because, many people in this forum got it working successfully without much efforts (similar to Android 4G devices). So, I'm not sure where the problem is. Was there something got permanent when we were trying multiple things. (All are from phone screens, not devel-su).

Can a device reset help?

  1. Now, as a next step I accessed logs using journalctcl -r.

[root@Sailfish nemo]# journalctl -r

Have you messed around with the OS much - like removing the Intex stuff, updating through command line etc.? If so you may have made a mistake somewhere unintentionally. So a factory reset would be one way of testing this out. (Don't forget to backup first). After you do a factory reset, update the OS only through the 'valid' way (through Settings menu). And then check if everything is working fine.

@sifartech (TL;DR: I did reset the phone, issue not resolved)

No, Infact. Whatever I've tried was only through UI like changing access point etc. What was surprsing was that the same physical sim is working in another Aqua Fish of my cousin's. Only after trying everything I tried updating to Sailifsh 2.0.4.14 but the issues is not resolved. Since I don't know what could be different between those two same model phones, I reset my device. Which to my surprise didn't solve the problem either. Then I asked this question with technical details indicating some lines related to this. Even this post couldn't fetch much replies despite it giving technical indications through logs.

So, I called intex customer service, and explained exact situation. Then they asked me to bring the phone to service center. I'm yet to do that.

I also see that many people have this problem (Data disabled) in this forum, while others got it working without much efforts. So, I'm wondering if some of the handsets are defective.

@pink panther did you switch sim slots. Mine works on the second sim slot but shows - Problem with connection with the first sim slot. Sometimes I scan for networks and select Jio4G manually. I have updated to the latest release using the command line but it used to work before that also.

@dillihifi yes, I've tried all those things. At the end I inserted in another Aqua Fish and that's working there.

Also, Check out the mobile data related issues section in Jolla phone: Troubleshooting phone call, SMS & mobile data issues.

If the factory reset didn't help and the SIM works on another AquaFish it does sounds like a hardware problem. In this discussion someone figured out that their SIM wasn't making proper contacts with the phone. You should investigate that on your phone too. The same thread also points out some issue with IMEI and Jolla account.

There is a chance that this could also be related to a bug currently being tracked by Jolla. Or it could also be related to the other 4g issues others have complained about -

Anyway, just hand it over to Intex. Worst case, they won't be able to fix it if it is not a hardware problem in which case they'll have to give you a replacement phone. Either way, you will get back an Aquafish that works. :)

Thanks for title change. I doubt if it's sim contact problem/IMEI as other network sims are working. Even with JIO sim, signal is coming. Thanks for the links I will look into them.

Tried those, no luck :(

Just hand it over to Intex since the phone is under warranty. It's Intex's headache to fix it for you. Even if it is an OS issue, Jolla will fix it faster if the issue is raised by Intex directly. Whether it is a hardware or software issue, you can demand a replacement phone if they say they can't fix your device.

yeah, as I said, this seems to be happening only for some handsets. I could test this since I had another Aqua Fish. I presume you have used correct apn settings. What error are you getting? Please upvote this question.
