Hi,
my phone started todays update, restarted and since then the screen remains black. Only the LED on the front is bright white. I already tried to restart it, took the battery out and tried it with and without charger cable and SD-card. Unfortunately I do not have the SSHD running if I don't need it, so this is no way of accessing it. Any more ides?

It will reset your phone to an old factory version, then you will have do several updates to bring it up to the latest version. You will also loose all data in the phone.

My Jolla 1 ended up in a similar state a few updates back. I used the recovery mode to back up some data, and switched to another Jolla1 device, abandoning the bricked one. After almost a year later, I for no particular reason plugged the power supply in, turned power on and left the phone on the desk. The next time I checked, the phone was operational, but the version had not updated. I restarted with sim card - worked. I updated to latest version - worked. So, before considering factory reset, please try to boot up without sim and sd card, and wait long enough to be sure that the start up is not just particularly slow. I wish I could better describe all the steps I did, can't remember.

Thanks for all the help! Unfortunately I was not successful, yet. Looks like the BTRFS of /dev/mmcblk0p28 is damaged and I have not found a way if repairing it. This is how it looks like:

As long as this file system is mounted readonly the factory reset of the rescue menu wont work. As long as the file system is damaged it's not possible to mount it writable... You see my problem. Any ideas?

I think there is everything you need to reflash your device and the instructions should be enough to guide you through the process. If you are paranoid you shouldn't use this image since we can't know for sure if it is clean.

What model of phone you have: Jolla 1, Jolla C or Intex AquaFish?
