I can't remember exactly what was the first Sailfish version when this issue started but I guess the 2.0 , and it is still exist unfortunately, so annoying. (I made some screenshots of the issue as well.)

So the problem usually happens when the message app was opened with the cursor in the message line so you can see the virtual keyboard or when you received a message and you want to answer straight so click on the message and it will open it with the keyboard (same thing). If you turn the phone (at the same time when the keyboard is appearing!) from portrait to landscape or from landscape to portrait the screen can slips 1 or 2 rows upwards or downwards or just everything disappears of the screen apart of the keyboard. If it slipped up and you are typing, everything above the keyboard will jump up and then down after every single typed character. If it slipped down you won't see what you are typing because the cursor is gonna be behind the keyboard and all the messages are showing 1 or 2 rows downwards on the screen. Or sometimes just simply the cursor and also all messages gone, you can only see the keyboard. You can type but you won't see what you are writing...

The quick solution if you just turn the screen 90° and back everything is fine again...

I am using Intex Aqua Fish (like Jolla C).

Please solve this problem in the next update if possible. Many thanks!

The bug is still there in the new update (2.1.1.23) ! :(

EDIT:

THE BUG IS STILL THERE IN 2.1.2.3...!!! (So annoying bug! Why so hard to fix it?)

The bug is still there in 2.1.3.5 (Sailfish X) , Nice one!

Seems to be related to this bug report: https://together.jolla.com/question/153306/bug-messages-input-field-gets-out-of-focus/

Hmm, you are right, same or similar results with some different occasions. Maybe the reason is same (hopefully).

The strange thing is, I meet with this problem every day just I was a bit lazy so far to report it. But considering that bug has been reported (ok, sorry I haven't seen that report before that is why I haven't voted up) but so far only 3 user voted it up... I don't think so anyone has taken it seriously.

But in my opinion this bug is bug and I can't believe only 4 user met with it, because the message app is one of the most used app + easier to type in landscape mode, if you know what I mean...

May I can suggest do change the title of this issue. The title "Still existing bug in the message app" just doesn't describe anything relevant. What about "Messaging: Keyboard slips up and hides entered text" :)

It would be too long if I would like to describe the bug exactly. Because not just slips up and hide the texts, most of the times the entered text slips up and down after every typed letters as I mentioned, and sometimes everything just gone from the screen except the keyboard... So this issue is more complex. But I see someone amended the topic already, I don't mind... The only think what I care that to be fixed, and it is still there in the 2.1.1.23 :( ...

This may not help, but in Utilities - if you have it downloaded, installed and updated, the first option it offers you is:

"Utilities > Restart Keyboard"

The text below the button states: "Restart network subsystem if anything wrong has happened with connectivity (WLAN, mobile data )."

Now this may not help at all - as, from what you observe, it seems to be some glitch with the number of characters input 'd into the current message - But it might be worth a try to see if it flushes out the glitch and you can carry on texting... Let us know!

This is not a solution, and as I said if I turn the screen from landscape to portrait (or vice verse) the bug is gone, and if I turn it back, it is still gone no problem. The problem only come when I unlock the screen and I turn the phone at the same time when the keyboard appears, and of course not always, but many times...

(you can try it, easy to produce, open the message app + make the keyboard appear then press the lock key. Hold the phone for example portrait and press the lock key twice to unlock the last opened screen after approx 1 second (at the same time when the keyboard is appearing) turn the phone to landscape and if anything slipped on the screen you can see the bug, if not, try again, for me once from 3 occurs...)

So the quick solutions is just turn the screen again and it is gone, but we need a permanent bug fix because this is not normal app behaviour.

@bagatel - agreed, after following your instructions shown above, I can reproduce this every time by applying one subtle change to your instructions ~ before the double press on the power button, turn the phone landscape then double press. As you stated (when using your instructions) I also could only produce it once in every 3 tries.

This is a bug without doubt @Babaguy - restarting a module/function or even the device, doesn't iron out bad coding, the file responsible in the messaging app requires editing to fix the bug. Welcome to TJC.

Other workaround would be to swipe the keyboard down and click the inputfield to set the focus on the inputfield again and let the keyboard show up again.

Yes, I forgot to say this is the other quick solution instead of turn the phone :)
