Xperia X - internal storage

Somehow my Sony has 'lost' internal storage. Should have 32gb, shows only 18.7gb!?! Did I miss something? Any ideas ... or similar encounters?

Basically, there is a 7GB partition at the end of the flash memory which is used for the Android system partition on a vanilla device. Jolla decided to not change any partitions (touching partitions is a bit risky, because there are a lot of partitions which are needed for firmware and other important stuff) and reuse the existing partition layout.
Unfortunately, this means that the 7GB partition is mostly unused, because it only contains about 1.5GB of Jolla recovery data (I saw only 600MB on my device when I mounted it, but I may not fully understand how the recovery works).
There is no short-term solution for this problem, and i wouldn't expect a quick fix from Jolla.

I do not understand why Jolla is unable to just wipe whole seven gb parition for sailfish x. so why we need Sonys firmware.. Short (or long if you have time) explanation would be appreciated.
How I can take a risk and remove pointless partitions/ files to gain more memory for sailfish?

I couldn't even install onto my Xperia (32 Gb) all native apps previously installed onto my Jolla phone (16 Gb): Xperia said it ran out of available space (4%) to install all of them. By the way, among the most greedy apps are RPNcalc, Emacs and Shmooze (which I couldn't install).

You beat me at this one. The Xperia X running Android has less than 20 GB available. I thought that with Sailfish there would have been more space available, but it's not there. Moreover, the system partition is still a measly 2 GB. Is there a reason for this limit? Is this a file system limitation? Something must be done about this, since the system partition is the place where Sailfish apps are installed and there is less than 1 GB available on a 32 GB phone.

The nemo home running out of its 2GB alotted and arguably SUPER tiny space is a different issue than the OS taking up 15GB.

DarkTuring ( 2017-10-12 02:56:47 +0200 )edit@DarkTuring SailfishOS can't take up 15 GB or it would not fit in a Jolla C (granted, this is 64 bit, but it cannot be so much bigger). I don't know where are the missing 10+ GB. For example, the Jolla C has about 12 GB listed in the two internal partitions out of the 16 GB flash dimension. About the nemo home size, I meant something official that does not imply the risk of bricking the device or losing all data.
Giacomo Di Giacomo ( 2017-10-12 10:29:43 +0200 )edit@Giacomo Di Giacomo It's definitely not at filesystem limitation as EXT4 is used. There is also no logical reason why LVM (which the root volume is on top of) would limit it to 2 GB.
Really, it makes no sense to make it so small - who cares about the data partition being smaller if you might not be even bale to update due to rootfs filling up (had that happen already on the tablet). Also you can always easily increase data storage ammount by using an uSD card, not so easy with rootfs.
MartinK ( 2017-10-13 03:05:43 +0200 )editDitto all that and my Xperia X also shows about 17GB free, with all of the images maybe taking up 2.5GB and maybe some unpacking going on say 4GB and some of the Sony memory not usable say 1GB then we have 32GB - 5GB = 17GB wait thats exactly what i got!? So anyways thats your explanation @tobset. With Android installed only 20GB was available for the device.
