Jolla announced different information about the bluetooth functionality (from not available to will maybe works without garanty).

Hope that the user which are using the Sony Xperia X in conjunction with Sailfish OS can share their experience, think this is not only interesting for me :-) Mean functionality with bluetooth devices, car entertainment systems etc.

The bluetooth functionality from the Jolla C was unfortunately a mess (no sync of the telephone list with the car entertainment system, problems with music streaming with the car entertainment system, bluetooth speaker etc.) Got from Jolla unfortunately, after mentioning these problems in the past, the answer that the Jolla C is only a community device (don't expect that we will fix such topics in the future).

Many thanks in advance :-)

Update: Sailfish X up and running, unfortunaltely the description from Jolla is not that good resp. not detailed enough.

First check: My Nokia bluetooth speaker are working fine when I use the Jolla media app, can conncet both of them (stereo mode). Connecting itself was very fast in my case. Received app (can recommend it :-)) is working now.

Jolla C is also working fine, can tranfer information between the two phones.

BMW: Possible to connect, contacts were synced (names and numbers) which was not supported with the Jolla C, calls via the hands-free system is possible. So this issue is fare better than in conjunction with the Jolla C.

Unfortunately syncing music, independent if I use the Jolla media app or the app "Received" is not possible, no sound. In the settings Sailfish X is supporting 7 different profiles (Jolla 1 only 6), but with the Jolla 1 everything is running fine but not with the Xperia X :-(

Jolla please help!

Update II (2.1.4.13): No changes, not working after the (EA) update. On top of that also the bluetooth of my Jolla 1 is not working anymore (see also here: https://together.jolla.com/question/179310/jolla1-audio-not-routed-over-bluetooth-in-21413/)

Update III (2.1.4.14): together.jolla.com/question/179310/jolla1-audio-not-routed-over-bluetooth-in-21413/ --> solved

I had the possibility to test it with some other cars (and entertainment systems), think the results are independent from V13 or V14:

BMW 220D (manufacturing date January 2018): Possible to connect, sync telephone list incl. numbers, calls via the hands-free system were possible, music were routed via bluetooth

VW Passat (manufacturing date February 2018): Possible to connect, sync telephone list incl. numbers, calls via the hands-free system were possible, music were routed via bluetooth, strange behavior: possible to turn the volume down but not up :/ (only possible on the phone in both direction).

Maybe this is more an issue about the manufacturing date of the entertainment system and not an issue about the used car brand itself.

HFT is not enabled in Sailfish Xperia X because of bluez5. See my answer somewhere down the road - I have posted also the profiles reported by Sailfish Xperia X and AquaFish.

Sailfish on AquaFish is bluez4 and HFT works.

Headset and Audio source and sink (a2dp) seem to work in bluez4 and bluez5. Perhaps not all devices but most.

There are issues with pairing, especially pairing older devices.

In my case the bluetooth implementation of the Jolla C is not working, with my BMW sync is possible but with no audio, no names (only telephone numbers) etc. Not sure what cause all the problems, Jolla gave never an answer regarding that issue. They aware of the problem but don't saw any reasons to fix that.

Try filling the "name" and "surname" fields in Prople, then check if names are shown. On the Alfa Giulia only entdies with names are shown, and the infotainment hardware is the same as BMW.

SfOS 2.1.4.14 bluetooth now connects faster than 2.1.4.13 on Xperia X. One issue i have had from the beginning is streaming disconnect after about 2min very first time connecting, after reconnecting it wont disconnect again. This still appears to be the case but depends on connected bluetooth device.

Here is my experience with Sailfish X (2.1.4.14):

  • car connection (Navi 600) connects as Headset, calls and contacts appear to work, but disconnects after a couple of minutes and stays disconnected.
  • Nokia Play 360 A2DP, AVRCP), I have two of them, so if they are paired together first, and then try to connect with the phone, there is stuttering. If I connect one speaker to phone sound is ok. Interestingly, if turn on the second speaker it connects automatically without stuttering.

Sailfish X can't connect with Carminat TomTom. The car displays information that the connection was cancelled, while on the phone there was a loading dialog and nothing else. Could be the problem is related to the fact that Carminat TomTom require pin code that's always random and it's displayed on the car screen while Sailfish didn't display any prompt.

My Xperia X can connect with Clio 3 Carminat TomTom but I had to use command line when carminat tomtom is listening and bluetooth activated on Xperia X :

devel-su
hcitool scan
hcitool cc __:__:__:__:__

(MAC address shown by previous command).

Try initiating connect from phone. TomTom is rather modern bluetooth implementation and this autogenerated pin (new style) worked in one KIA I had for few days out of the box.

I had to use bluetoothctl to connect, but you may also need to use dbus to configure pulseaudio properly. I have it on my todo list, but I don't use this car that often and can't find time.

Now I found again one article I read years ago and think it is still worth reading. http://www.lightofdawn.org/blog/?viewDetailed=00031

I doubt the TomTom carminat has any BT by itself but works as very limited display to Carkit Parrot tailored to Renault. Apparently only a Renault dealer can update the BT firmware. because it doesn't have it's own screen or the required buttons to invoke maintenance mode i've no idea which version it's on. haven't seen anything related on any obd2 output either. I drive a 2014 Megane. Can connect with Xperia X single sim but telephony is so silent that it is almost useless. In car or out of car no difference. cranking up vol does very little but makes the phone ring very loud. Phone says drivers are at 0.2.1.11 and Lemmenjoki.

So this is my experience:

  • Xperia XA2, SF 3.0.0.8
  • 2015 Subaru Outback with a (now obsolete) Fujitsu Ten head unit (also used by Toyota)

Working

  • Phone and car kit will pair nicely, transfer contacts and call history.
  • Phone is recognised as phone and audio device.
  • The head unit will show the BT symbol, cell network and BT signal strength.
  • In- and outbound calls work in good quality.
  • I can listen to my music after selecting BT as source, albeit in relatively low volume.

Not working

  • As not all protocols are supported, my car cannot read messages to me. (Well, more of a luxury problem here.)
  • I can neither start nor stop or skip the titles with the head unit. This needs to be done on the phone. The music subsection of the head unit pretends there‘s no phone connected. (Strangely enough, I CAN at least skip back and forth with the hardware keys on my steering wheel...)
  • The head unit will always display a full phone battery.

All in all: Could be worse. TBH, I expected MUCH worse.

regarding Start-Stop-Skip audio/music: you can install bluez5-tools and run mpris-proxy. In another thread I described a systemd config to autostart mpris-proxy

A quick note about XA2 Ultra: bluetooth keyboard pairs, but immediately disconnects. It works with my Xperia X, though.

I've tried to pair my Xperia XA2 to HUAWEI FreeBuds3 and it works fine but the volumen level is very low. I have the same experience with the airpods. Does anyone know how to solve this issue?
