What bugs does Sailfish X have?

asked 2017-10-25 18:22:03 +0300

I'm interested in buying an Xperia X and would like to know if Sailfish X has any bug or some feature does not work well.

I read that Sailfish OS (from Jolla phones) works best even on an Intex Aqua Fish, is it true?

Does it deserve to buy an Xperia X or should I wait?

Personally the main issue is that my SD card isn't recognized. The other little thing is that it can't load my SIM card on the fly, I need to reboot.

Apart from that and what's listed by Jolla, works quite well for me. If you find a cheap second hand Xperia X in good shape, it worth it.

Just reformat your SD card to FAT32 and you're good to go! This is what I did with my 64GB SDHC card now it is working perfectly.

Please guys, click on the link, I know which cards SFOS is supposed to support... The card is working in the J1, formatted in VFAT.

for solid performance I can recommend the Intex Aquafish (plus a good camera) My Xperia does not make me happy yet.

Well, this is not exactly answering your question regarding bugs in sailfish X, but i'd like to encourage you to simply dive in.

I just replaced my jolla 1 by a xperia X with sailfish X. It's terriffic! I really love it.

I dont believe sailfish will be totally free of bugs for quite some time so the best time for joining is jus now! If you are keen of that upcoming XA2, waiting for it may be worth it. If not: Just get your device, get your sailfish X and dive in!

Found an issue in the wifi while traveling to Korea. I was not able to connect to any 2.4GHz network (actually the search results in the phone seeing only 5G networks). Using the US regdom (iw reg set US in the terminal) makes the phone to see all wifi networks.

This was working fine by default on Jolla 1.

It sets the region based on what mobile network (not what country of SIM you have) it is connected to. This is set upon boot.

Audio recording volume is extremely low, in both Android (e.g. WhatsApp voice messages) and native (Recorder, from Jolla Store) applications. This was previously reported here: https://together.jolla.com/question/182455/sailfishx-recorded-audio-volume-low/

Voice volume during calls is apparently fine, very clear and definitely loud enough, so it's not a HW but a SW issue, and not even across the whole system (since calls are fine).

I would edit the wiki, but don't have enough karma myself.

I would like to give my list of issues/wishes as a user of an XA2:

  • WiFi consumes INSANE amounts of battery
  • fingerprint sensor not working (see above)
  • proximity sensor acting up, had to deactivate it to make phone usable
  • compass heading way off/erratic
  • mpris-service had to be set up manually to allow music file meta data to be transferred to car head unit via BT
  • exiting flight mode requires a reboot for some features to work again

  • time triggered silent & night modes missing regarding sounds and display

  • bowser, gallery, mail & documents apps seem unfinished/outdated or having a weird workflow (maybe it‘s me)
  • top menu lock could vanish IMO
  • some quick accesses not possible from top menu in locked state
  • camera could be better (no killer feature for me though)

Otherwise the look&feel is great, the swiping gestures, too. Battery life is good even with GPS and 4G/LTE activated. Nice apps from Jolla store and OpenRepos - I am hardly missing anything. Well, a speed trap warning app, but that‘s about it.

Check user reports:

https://together.jolla.com/question/168884/user-reports-sailfish-x/

What hasnt been mentioned here is that GPS for Android Apps basically doesnt work, takes a long long time to start and only very infrequently updates coordinates, which makes driving turn by turn directions useless.

The GPS works ok for me on HereWeGo and Sportstracker.

Turn by turn directions on HereWeGo work well, however since text to voice isn't available there are no Street names included in the turn by turn directions.

GPS on google maps works fine here, using it daily when driving.

I just went on a trip with my car and getting any valid gps location at all was a real pain (I used HereWeGo). I also had a problem with Sailfinder (the Sailfish tinder app) often getting a completely wrong location for me, which may or may not be related to that. Jolla always claims to have a fix (gps icon not blinking, but being solid), but it seems to be almost completely broken for me... maybe someone has a suggestion how I can reliably check if the phone has a correct gps fix...

I used Waze each day ... And I din't get any problem with GPS position ...

Unbelievable that i am the only person that consistenly has issues with SFOS GOS integration when it comes to Android Apps, for Example maps.me just doesnt work!

I did confirm that Here actually works (just dont trust my GPS data with them, neither with Google or Waze, which places all those off the menue for me); i am looking at an open streets map implementation.

I've noticed some apps particularly Opera and Sportstracker lose access to the internet from time to time. The only way to restore access is to re boot the phone. I think it might be an Android app issue.

Also the Jolla/Sailfish weather app often comes up with a message saying no internet access, this is usually solved by switching airplane mode On and Off.

I have noticed that in People app, the links will work for a while but soon they all are not linked. If it is done again, it is the same. This I haven't found at J1 or Jolla C.

Also I have problems with gps. In settings at location if I choose some else than only gps, every app or map show that I'm in center of Helsinki. I live about 200km from there. (Saunalahti is my service provider) But if I'm connected to wifi it finds fast and close.

Only gps it will take sometimes about 30 minutes to find. Sometimes it is faster. And sometimes it also shows that I'm in Helsinki.

What are "people app links", I am not sure I understand. At least for me all my contacts are correct.

For me GPS actually locks faster than on sbj1, and it is more accurate also I think. No surprise there as it is 4 years old HW :) I use the "accurate positioning" setting which I think means AGPS.

juiceme ( 2017-11-18 17:09:08 +0300 )edit

Sorry, I mean contacts. Those links are disappering soon after they've made. They are correct but sometimes when somebody calls phone shows only number, no name. Or txtmessage is the same. But afterwards name is shown.

KulspetsP ( 2017-11-19 19:29:36 +0300 )edit

Okay, if that happens then it certainly is some kind of bug.

I have not seen that on any of my devices, when somebody on my contact list calls or texts me it always is shown with the caller name.

Do you have something special in your contacts, many thousand of named contacts or something like that?

juiceme ( 2017-11-20 07:37:59 +0300 )edit

No, nothing special. I think I have about 200 contacts and they all are at Jolla 1 and Jolla C and there are no problems.

I can confirm that compass is working in 2.2.1, tested with "Orienteering Compass" from Jolla Store.

Here another bug: AAC stream radios don't play on sony xperia x (sailfish x 2.2.1.18) https://together.jolla.com/question/138605/bug-21123-jollac-aac-stream-problems-now-crash-of-mp/ https://together.jolla.com/question/174978/xperiax-allradio-wont-play-an-aac-stream/
